This is disappointing.

I'm not someone who believes that Assange deserves this.

I don't care about him he refused to edit the data to remove names thus putting lives at risk. The Guardian had the same compelling data but was responsible in publishing it. The public got the headlines and the stories just not the phone number and name and address of everybody.

He also refused to publish a similar dump from Russian intelligence so his claims to just being an impartial journalist are questionable.

If your narcissistic enough to publish confidential information and think you'll get away with it then you deserve everything that's coming. Hoping the Yanks give him a life sentance.

It’s a pity the process only works one way. It would be good to get the cowardly murderer Anne Sacoolas sent over to face justice.

When you sign on the dotted line about secrets you are told the consequences of breaking it, and you know the consequences of doing so. He may have been trying to do something right at some stage. However, these people can always reach out and touch you - and they have. Only his profile has prevented some kind of accident happening already. Accidents do happen.
We all know it, yet we basically shove it to the backs of our minds and forget about it. Not our business.

Isn't that a claim rather than a fact?

Personally, I know which side I tend to believe.

I would hope he would get a fair trial. But the USA has one of the worst recent records in relation to care of prisoners awaiting trial.
Read some of the accounts from former detainees at Guantanamo Bay, where they were held for more than 15 years without trial, subjected to treatment amounting to torture, then released.

Cases like that do not inspire confidence in the USA's judicial system.

I lost that with OJ Simpson.

You may be interested that i enjoy the company of lawyers from time to time, in a purely social capacity . They are mostly foreign lawyers studying facets of English law at University, because, as they put it,.."British Law has its faults, but it is held in the highest regard in other countries because it sets a very high standard that other countries try and aspire to." (or words to that effect)

Colin Stag may not appreciate those comments, but in the main I'd like to think all UK prosecutions are without political influence or intended malice. Not so in the fantastic U S of A
