Abortion now illegal in tens of States due to trigger laws. In many including those pregnant through rape or where the health of the Mohter is at risk. Abortion has always been something I view in an especially negative light unless there is legitimate reason, and it's clear that there are real issues where it becomes too assessible. However blanket bans comes with massive problems of their own (backstreet abortions etc) that we'll no doubt see going forward.

The US is going down a concerning road, and I don't see State intrusion into peoples lives at this level to be a good thing. Thomas is now suggesting that that they should revisit ruings on contraception, gay marriage and indeed sex. A pivital moment for those who proclaim to support notions of privacy, personal freedoms and free speech.. Of course though often that's found lacking, because it' only ever about making room for ones own freedoms and ideas, rather than other peoples.

Combined with the recent gun ruling, the Supreme Court is creating a series of unnecesary tinderbox situations that in my view will not end well. The future problems will be further polarisation. Even in this perspective where the States were to split in two, the mindset gets locked in. The left would become even more wacky world, and the right if the court gave them their way would just become more and more puritanical. You can shuffle people around but their outlooks and mentality follow them and so a whole new raft of contrived divisions would appear and be stoked to the advantage of political parties, the rich and so on. Plebs keep on plebbin'

Killing babies is wrong. There is no subjective argument.

So in your view if a women is raped instead of dealing with a likely unwelcome pregnancy there and then before it's an issue, she should be forced for the next nine months to carry her rapists baby? Or if pregnancy would likely endanger a womans life?

Stark examples I know, but it points towards where absolutist thinking on these issues in either direction leads. As with anything a balanced approach makes sense, so as you'd expect in America you instead get outlooks at the fringes of both parties that beggar belief.

This ruling just adds to what a lottery this will be dependent on where people live.

Always the most extreme and very rare example.

Do these children deserve to die?

I stated that absolutist views of looking at this issue, lead to circumstances that would otherwise not come about due to common sense. That was literally the point of my comment.

Much in the same way that I see it as abhorrent that people try to push the window for when they can have an abortion further, you'll have to excuse me if I also don't align well with your outlook that a raped woman is a child murderer if she takes a morning after pill.

Or inferences that the health of a woman during pregnancy isn't an important factor

Outside of the States, where this isn't as often a faultline issue, with some exceptions this isn't always an area without common ground or common sense.

Recent gun laws in New York mean that adults are now more likely to suffer gunshot injuries. It's OK to kill adults, it's just not OK for women to have the power (if needed) to have control of their bodies and future.

Bit of a tricky one for Biden on abortion, as I understand Biden is Catholic. And you don't want to upset the kiddy-fiddlers at the top.

Oh and by the way:

Don’t want all that data as it’s bollox tbh by the way.
A baby is not a baby once you cum inside a woman.
That’s bull.
A woman has the say not some person with an opinion normally with a religion based argument. This is a huge mistake and I for one think it’s more selfish than laws I’ve seen changed. My opinion won’t change and nor will yours so it is in bed now.

A wonderful day for those of us who consider most abortion a moral wrong.

However, there is much fear mongering around this area and I find it somewhat ironic that it's now the left making the slippery slope arguments.

The slippery slope can be real and not a fallacy, however some of the claims are absurd and just won't happen.

My cut off point for abortion is the start of a heartbeat, which would be around six weeks.

A LOT of hyperbole flying around tonight over in the US. Be interesting to see if any of it actually turns into what people are promising.

Seen one idiot trying to encourage enraged Lefties to attack US rural towns because they are 'defenceless'.

That will end well.

Sarah everard, only two genders, trans banned from ‘womens’ sporting events,
No single changing rooms, chivalry etc etc and now a woman cannot choose to get rid of a lump of goo in her belly. Where exactly do womens rights start and end.
