I'm just looking at the accounts on Companies House, considering last summer and this summer, and thinking how much money a relative journeyman like Kouyate cost us. We lost a fortune in the 24 months through last June. Last summer we spent about 60 or 70m net on players (with no clear sign of hugely arresting our underlying losses before we made those purchases). Put those things together, plus our apparent moves this summer, and we are being very bold. I'm not against it. But we all need to understand that there will be significant sales and that what the club is aspiring to be has changed dramatically. And it's far from risk free.

We'll probably sell the first one for big money next summer - most likely Guehi or Olise. The asset value of our players (a lot of whom are on long contracts) is massive and growing. The club's probably about as financially secure at present as it ever has been.

You’ve just described the club’s new transfer/squad management strategy, which is exactly how a club like our size should operate. Frankly I’d be more concerned if we were doing anything other than this and more concerned if there wasn’t a policy like we’ve seen in the past. Calm down, dear.

The strategy is the correct one but it has taken us too long to get here. The accumulated losses to reach this point for a club of our size are staggering. And it's for these reasons I say this strategy has to work. I also don't get the sense most fans realise we have taken this strategic approach, and that we will be selling many of our twinkly stars. I spoke to a fan up at Villa who felt Guehi would be our and England's captain for years to come. I'd wager both those things will not come to pass.

We lost £98 million in the two years to June 2021, having essentially not turned a cumulative profit in the six preceding Prem years. Last summer, we spent (I estimate, i think conservatively) £70 million along with wage requirements that would engender. I guess we are not profitable right now. So we have the right strategy, i agree, and we have acquired good assets, but let's not delude ourselves (a ) that this is risk free or (b ) that we won't be a serious selling club going forward. I wanna see a big new shiny stand and loads of young excellent players come in and at the same time I'll totally trust the brilliant owners that they've done it all with the clubs future in mind. That's why they're rich and brilliant and I can just sit back and enjoy it. For the last 12 years every season has got better and better (apart from the last 2 Hodgson years) and thats because we're run by a very clever person so don't worry and just enjoy it.

At some point we had to do it and if we didn’t we could’ve carried on with the previous and made the situation worse. Every club outside about 8 or 9 are in danger of relegation so what’s new? And I’d actually argue our current player assets would be of more value and use than the ageing players before we started the new strategy with Eze I think it might’ve been. You might be right in thinking that a fair few palace fans will be deluding themselves they we aren’t a selling club even though that’s part of the point in buying Eze, Olise, Guehi, Andersen etc, but most of them will be kids with the odd few who are clearly part time fans, and every club bar a couple get frustrated with transfer and selling policies, so what’s new there? Not a lot. I think the best thing to do is be confident we have freedman, Parish and Textor, or whoever provides the cash at the time, and Vieira to stop us being relegated and progressing the plan and strategy even if we don’t finish higher season after season. League finishes don’t always give a true reflection if the players who go aren’t replaced because the squad and club management is shambolic or just complacent.

Parish had to achieve 3 things imo to claim success rather than just buying established prem players we couldn’t sell so we end up getting financially hamstrung: 1. Develop the academy and produce some players and some revenue if the players go onto play professionally if not good enough in the top 1-2 leagues. That is on its way. 2. Change the business model/transfer/squad management strategy. Done. Very well done so far. 3. Build a new stand, at least. Let’s hope it happens. Parish will want to have this done or about to happen before he considers going anywhere.
