A shame about this. I think it would have been a solid addition. We obviously had our valuation and that likely would have been enough... but if another team comes in offering more money than what we're prepared to then the outcome is clear. Maybe we'll try to do the same with Aribo.

West Ham can probably afford to gamble with £12m more than we can, especially if the Doucoure deal is going through. If it's true that we offered 8m and they offered 12m then it's not like they did anything underhand. Also, of the deals they supposedly snuck in on only Bowen has really shone. Benrahma looking like they overpaid and the less said about Hugill the better. On the flipside they were at one time or another also supposedly interested in Eze, Olise and Guehi. I think we've done ok

It was said Swansea, really wanted £12 million weeks back.. It could well be Palace were never that close in reality , There are times when it’s a matter of how much did you want the merchandise , this is probably one of those.

If we really wanted him we would match the offer. Again, if he has been on our radar for awhile, we should have outbid Swansea last year. It would have been alot less than 12m.

I am under the slightly ignorant impression that FD was maybe considered as a 'one for the future so get him whilst young' kind of player, we have a few of those. Personally, I do not want to see any 30+ players coming in however would like a few 'starting XI' players coming in first before we begin building the supply chain for loans to lower divisions. Could be very ignorant as I say however we'll see how well he gets on sitting on WHU's bench and then maybe at Leyton Orient the following season.

It doesn't seem it got to the point where he himself had to make a decision; in fact, while at Ipswich I seem to remember him being given time off as he was upset they wouldn't sign off on the sale to us. West Ham are a bigger club, will probably pay him more and he's a boyhood fan. If he had been asked to choose he was always going to them anyway. C'est la vie.
