So let’s tell police, fire, ambulance, nurses, water board, gas board, council workers, bankers ad infinitum not to work because it’s hot. There will be plenty moaning then as anarchy takes hold. Never heard so much molly coddling going on. Have we really become so self centred and precious as to become a take society. Load of bulls***.

Let's not forget the absolute soldiers at Sittingbourne Morrison's Cryst, without whom I would have had to of used the wife's 'Soya' Milk in my tea this morning, oh the humanity! I do agree with you to a certain extent although feel I care far less about the whole thing. For me it's another great example of the leap from not giving a flying about how people feel or their basic needs to OTT protection and mollycoddling of the population paving the way for endless moaning which is not only acceptable but is a protected and eulogised by all and any means necessary. I am still waiting for the BBC to publish my article on the 'hidden suffering' of those who still have to work and socialise like the rest of us never once being able to speak out about, let alone be helped, for having a slightly itchier @rse than the average person. We are truly the last hurdle in the bastion of true equality and inclusivity.

GMB 'workers' protecting themselves from the heat will still expect the people who operate shops, pubs, swimming pools etc. to stick to their respective tasks; and indeed the people who run the payroll processes by which GMB members will expect to be paid for doing nothing all day.

If as many suggest, public servants and union members do indeed sit at home all day getting paid for no work, then why are you not all signing up for these so called cushy numbers? I am a civil servant and a trade union official myself and yes do indeed do a mixture of office and home working but sadly the myth of nothing to do means I tend to work for about 50 hours a week and only get paid to 37.

I think the constant attack on Unions a bit much. Employers will take the piss constantly and workers do die - every year - often through negligence. Also companies are always trying to cut staff or staffing costs (wages) whilst awarding bonuses to the directors and dividends to share holders. That will probably always exist to some extent, yet, at least unions can fight somewhat for workers' rights.

Being a union official are you actually allowed to disagree with their suggestions on pay and conditions or would you be hounded out. Do you agree with this heat proposal and the 7% rise asked by the train union alongside no redundancies ever or streamlining of systems. Just inquisitive to find out if it’s one opinion and one only.

My union is not politically aligned so we are not affiliated to a party and we have a democratic executive committee where we discuss any issues and majority carries the day. If you then do not agree with that majority decision you are usually bound by cabinet responsibility to support the majority. As a union we will always try to negotiate rather than shout loudly and threaten to strike (but we have been on strike mainly when public sector pay meant no pay rises.

Thanks for that and certainly open for an envelope or two to sway one way or other if intentions are discussed before the vote. Only my pov. So do you agree with the train unions lately and are pensions better in the state system?
