The train unions are an interesting one as I do know a few train drivers locally. The unions do not just cover drivers - who are paid well (but driving a high speed train full of people is probably a responsible job- but the unions also support the station staff and everyone else who are not paid brilliantly and probably get a whole ahedload of abuse. Do they deserve a pay rise? Well everyone does at the moment. Are pensions better? At the moment yes but equally pay is in a lot of cases less and there are no big annual bonuses so it's a trade off. In my job I could earn a lot more outside but I have been happy to forgo that as I believe we need good public servants and I have some work/life balance despite long hours

Tbh I�m working on a boiler the size of the average family car atm. Maybe I�m just used to it. Too much time on my hands it definitely is not. Just a realist who doesn�t like the winging moaning taking society we are becoming but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion and I accept yours with no issues. I am a civil servant and a trade union official myself and yes do indeed do a mixture of office and home working but sadly the myth of nothing to do means I tend to work for about 50 hours a week and only get paid to 37.

If, as every public sector trade union representative maintains, private sector pay and conditions are so much better than they are for public servants, then why are public sector workers not all signing up for THOSE so-called cushy numbers? There are plenty of vacancies.

I was able to work flexibly and see my kids grow up with me as, a part of that. I know many former colleagues who left public service for the money and the bonuses who now say that loss of work life balance is the one thing they missed. To me it was priceless.

I agree the office is probably cooler but I would not be confident today in a network of services to get me there and back again.

For many maybe the problem maybe just getting in/out of the office as commuter travel seems to be suffering with slower services and issues on the road.

I agree the office is probably cooler but I would not be confident today in a network of services to get me there and back again.

That's a bit silly. If you just find a really long YouTube video play that and it will stop screen from turning off so you can keep an eye on anything new incoming. You know, not that I've ever done that but believe it works

I now just call my mobile phone, answer it and hold onto it so it shows I am "in a call"

You really believe we work to better the country. We work because we need money. If you work because you need something to do then fair play but to get there you would have originally worked for money. Public sector is easy, lots of sick and virtually no chance of the sack and a good pension. People cannot moan about pay when they know that better money is out there.
