Some of these minority of scientists now consigned to the files of (didn’t agree see ya) history are the very same who were probably garnering audiences of many thousands years ago when discussing evolution or the same. Suddenly they are loons who don’t have a clue even though their studies are possibly more considered and sensible, oh and older. Although maybe they arnt just greedy bstards like the yes men and women. IMHO of course, I’m not throwing aspersions at any greedy bstard.

I am not a fan of conspiracy theories that some push on here. However broken clock and all that...

It seems that drug companies have been making billions by pushing anti depressants that don't work all based on dodgy research that no one in the scientific community thought to question.

Back in the sixties I was the only kid in my class who did not have his tonsils removed.

Ulcers were down to stress and lifestyle not an infection.

There are plenty of examples of a consensus in the scientific / medical community that is later reversed.

Bottom line a healthy skepticism is not a bad thing as long as it is based on challenging so called research.

Some drugs work for some people going through mental health crises. Usually not for ever. Any drug that has no effect wouldn’t sell, nobody would prescribe it.

If the wrong drugs are used, or drugs prescribed wrongly or for too long that is not the fault of the drug companies

We have very little ammunition for dealing with mental illness. Usually just patch them up and send them back out. Drugs are our easiest sticking plaster and definitely help.

But then they get used in a way for which they weren’t designed or sold.

I have run two hospitals specialising in mental health issues and multiple care homes.

I spent some time in the “psychology/Psychotherapy” community a few years ago because the subject interested me at the time. One thing I can say for sure is that it’s full of absolute charlatans and based on very little science. The very idea that you are not in full control of your own brain is a toxic one.

Jung had some interesting stuff to say but Freud was an obsolute charlatan.

I can't help but be a little irritated by the BBC's advert for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Their advert is all about it being "A Brum Ting".

It's not a Brum Ting. It's the Commonwealth Games being hosted in Birmingham, not some Midlands version of the Notting Hill Carnival.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

sh@gging his own patients
getting them hooked on cocaine

using cocaine himself
all his crackpot dalliances with ancient civilisations & hocus pocus.

the total lack of scientific method in his ramblings.

Looks like the BBC have been up to their usual dishonest tricks again.

plus Freud's attempts to get people to leave him all their stuff in their Will.

the BBC.......... its pure comedy at this stage. The morning of the Brexit vote ? that deserves a comedy award, with Ricky Gervais as the compere.

Exactly, it's not like when we hosted the Olympics is it? Did we call that London 2012 and have stuff like London buses and the Links singing Waterloo sunset at the opening ceremony or London landmarks all over the branding.

Just pandering to Northern sensibilities in a typical BBC way.

I see Mayor Kannot is trying to bring the Olympics back to London. I am still waiting to see the legacy that we were promised was part of the bid?
