He was writing a book, but that's gone very quiet. Think he ran out of crayons.

Anyhoo, back to CG. Apparently according to EPL rules is if a player goes back to the same club on loan the following season, there has to be an 'obligation to buy' clause inserted in the loan agreement.

I don't have a link, but, there is a piece on bbc football newsfeed, about Manure's Garner, who was on loan at Forest last season, going back there(on loan) If he did, there would have to be foresaid 'obligation'. Naturally he wants to go out on loan elsewhere, so not to be tied down somewhere he doesn't want to be.

This could be one of the reasons why CG won't be coming back to us. Just my take/opinion on it.

That must be a new rule.

There wasnt a obligation to buy when Batsuayi came back the following season from Chelsea.

Chelsea are starting to look like this season's Man Utd.

Players on their radar have opted for other clubs ( well, Barca specifically ). Other players that want out but being blocked from doing so.

Pre season not going particularly well.

A coach that has a track record of falling out with the hierarchy publicly complaining to the Press.

On the one hand you could argue that CG will not have a better opportunity to impress Tuchel. On the other you could argue that he's entered a divided, toxic environment that could get the better of him.

I wish him all the best. Would I like him back at Palace ? Yes, if the fee was realistic. He's still young and needs development.

If he doesn't make the World Cup squad and Chelsea don't finish Top 4 then I wonder where his thoughts will be...

True, tho Bats wasn't here for a full season 1st time round(?) i think this only applies to players on Full Season Loans & yes, you could well be right, it maybe a new rule implemented by the EPL, who knows.

Indeed!

To help Eagleman out here is a link that verifies the story on the BBC - it's the second Forest story on the page

[Link]

But if you refer to the Premier League Handbook, I mean why would you, its over 600 pages long, there is a link on this page below to download the full PDF (8MB) and you can skip through to pages 239-241 (which is page 124 of the pdf) to read about 'Temporary Transfers'

[Link]

and I can't see any mention there of a year on year restriction

But maybe it's in there somewhere else or there has been an update - the BBC don't usually make this stuff up but they are not infallible

Just a thought but I think the Beeb's article re Garner spoke of back-to-back loan deals with the same club. Batshuayi was with us during the 18/19 and 20/21 seasons so a whole season in between the two loans.

Just a question about the obligation to buy . Would the loan fee ( i presume there is one ) and the players wages for the 2 loan spells be taken into consideration when it comes to the expected fee for to buy the player , for arguments sake say we pay Chelsea 3 mill per season for Gallaghers loan fee plus wages come to roughly 7.6 mill . Would that come off the asking price or is it irrelevant.

There's no rule on this, just usual practices. Often loan fees are taken into account by the selling club but they don't have to be. It would be stipulated in the text of the transfer contract.
