Does anyone know if Kouyate trained with the squad during pre season in lieu of contract ? I havent seen anyone reporting he had gone anywhere else.

he is a FREE agent his contract expired at the end of June, therefore he hasnt been part of pre season with us

atm he has NO club although we are talking to him, i dont think they expect him to resign....

until the club are 100% sure he is gone they wont announce hes left

Smart move by the club. He wouldn't be the first player to turn down a contract and then re-sign when nothing better came along.

Why a smart move ? He has left he has no contract that’s it. If he comes back then he’s a new signing.

I don't get the problem over Kouyate, must be something we just don't know.

We want him so have offered one year, he supposedly wants two.

Anything can happen in the period anyway, and he would be 34 if it went the distance like MacArthur.

Do we have his experience, his height his 'awkwardness'.

Why look any further.

He is tried and tested why spend millions on unknown quantities.

The problem seems to be that the club are adamant that players over 30 will only be offered 1 year contracts. They are unlikely to go back on that for Kouyate or any other player (with the possible exception of Zaha?? - will be interesting to see that once Zaha hits 30 later this year - assuming he doesn't go in this or the January window).

Tend to agree but we don't know the ins and outs. He might want higher wages, a large fee, guaranteed games - we just don't know. We don't exactly have any option other than to trust the club.
Personally, think we need him - especially with his ability to play in defence as well as midfield. He's useful.

Is it well that's daft.

It depends entirely on the player himself, you are not over the hill by being 30 and not 29.

Kouyate is rarely injured, doesn't carry excess weight and shows no sign of slowing down or lacking fitness.
He knows the club, appears to be well liked by the manager and his team mates and his versatility is a bonus.
I understand having a general policy for players over thirty but I'm sure exceptions could be made.
If we have a younger equivalent replacement lined up then fair enough, but there appears to be no sign of this at present.

If it is only a year on offer this could easily be a shot in our own foot. It might be Kouyates demands are to high. But all in all to lose a fit , experienced international, who has played a big part for us in both mid field and defence in the last two seasons, two years would make him 34 not to old unless injury prone, which he is not. So his loss has to be considered of doubtful use going forward.
In particular if we do not make more experienced signings for mid field.

A 2 year contract means Kouyate is another player at AFCON 2023 (in January 2024).

We are at risk of Doucoure, Kouyate, Olise, Eze, Zaha, Schlupp and Ayew all being at that tournament.

That is a huge reason not to give him a 2 year contract.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

I thought he was going to sign for a club in Middle East?

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't Doucoure the younger replacement?
