All of whom I expect to finish above us in the PL.

I disagree, it wasn’t great last night, but we will improve I’m sure and will play worse teams than Arsenal, including Everton, Wolves and Leicester who I think will all be average at best

Made in Bromley

so lets all talk about negatives , think we are well past that being doing for 10 years on here so time to stop .

Ok not the result we wanted but we lost 3-0 last year 1st game and we really wasnt in that game so , Arsenal looked ok but it was mistakes we made gave them 2 goals , Guaita goal line hugging for the first and own goal for the 2nd , we was on top for long periods last 15 1st half good 25 to 30 mins 2nd half we just didnt take our chances simple .

we need a different RB , younger whos not frighten to cross , Midfield it had bite with the new lad so give him time and he wont run out of steam and do more , Ebiowei was a quick look at but looks strong in the 7 to 8 mins he was on so a positive , Eze showing glimpses of his old self couldn't believe he didn't take his chance , Wilf was ok but stopped when 2nd went in .

think Mateta is our best choice up front at the moment , Edouard I like him when he plays wide and attacking , rather than down the middle , hope Olise back soon as Ayew for all his hard work always something missing .

We have a lot of skillful players but I think we cant play them all together , as defence , for how good they are need a little help , so stop we are doomed after the first game its not true , my brothers Arsenal said we are better than the score line and reckons 8th can be reached

Has anyone made the point that so much of our play in the second half resembled that of last season where we would lose a game or fail to clinch it.

This isn't the biggest positive, but on the other hand, at least it shows we can press and make decent teams like Arsenal try and protect a lead. We have to wait and see. I am hoping we can have 3 points at least by game 5 with our difficult fixtures. Let's keep positive. Most likely is that the players will need our support.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

First game of the season, a long way to go. Arsenal had an excellent pre season with top players signed for big money. We had a disjointed pre season for various reasons. We did ok, after we settled into the game, no point digging out individual players, if luck was on our side, we could of got a draw, they weren't that much better than us.
I expect at least 2 new players by the end of the window, but top quality midfielders and strikers dont come cheap, so expect the loan or purchases to be based on potential.
I expect we will finish about 13-14th, there are a lot of clubs with far deeper pockets than us.

i thought the first 20 minutes they were going to rip us a new arsehole, but we slowly grew into the game and should of equalised before half time with the header.second half we were the better side and Eze has to score if he did we would have gone onto win, and that would be a worry for Arsenal with all the money they have spent they only looked better than us for 20 mins. I think we need to invest in another central midfielder ,and also bin Ayew who is woeful. We also need a new forward neither Eduard or Mateta are the answer. On the positive thought Anderson was almost Koemanesque with his passing and his interceptions. All in all if we buy well and get Olise back soon we will be ok, will be tough to start with but we will climb the table after the first few games

Slightly off topic but watching Anderson's long passing last night made me think how good it would have been to have Bolassie at his best on the end of those passes.
Not only was he fast and direct, but you couldn't easily shove hin off the ball.
There must have been at least four occasions yesterday when we failed to exploit the passes.

People go on about the need for a new striker and maybe now Benteke is gone we need cover there BUT I don't blame our existing strikers because there is no service (apart from Andersen's long balls)

As I've said many, many times we need a ball-holding midfield general with the ability to bring the ball forward. Our existing midfield is basically defensive (Doucoure is an upgrade on Kouyate or Luka in that respect)

We have nobody with the ability and confidence to boss the midfield and lay on real chances. If we get one (unfortunately like gold-dust) then time to judge the merits of Mateta or Edouard. Last season Gallagher disguised the discrepancy in midfield but now if nothing is done we are in for a long, hard season.

I really don’t get why people still talk about us flirting with relegation at the start of the season?

There will always be minimum 3 teams who come up who we will be better than plus the other 4/5/6 teams we tend to finish above the previous season.

I just don’t get the glass half empty mentality. We are established and tend to finish 11-14th so let’s just let go of the relegation talk.

First game of season, should’ve at least got a draw disappointed with the two chances missed and 2-0 was flattering to Arsenal.

Took 25 mins to settle and yes, we need a new midfielder and striker which I expect will both arrive with both (RLC & MGW -wolves) rumoured plus AWB possibly loaned at rb, I think would add youthful energy.

The first goal - marking was school boy giving zinchenko all that space to back into the box.

Was - am disappointed but it’s only the first game and as we watch the other fixtures across the weekend there will be other fans much more upset with their teams than us come Monday morning.

Despite such a poor start thought we played well for the last hour of the game and if we take the two good chances that fell to Edouard and Eze we come away with a point.

However, we still look a bit light down the right hand side and in midfield. Stating the obvious a bit but Gallagher’s ability to press and goals and assists won’t be easy to replace and I was disappointed in Doucoure who failed to have much influence on the game IMO.

I also hope we’re looking for another forward as much us I’m pleased to see Benteke go his departure together with Kouyate’s has left us looking weak in the air.

Zinchenko was awful for them and we failed to capitalise on this. The incidents where we kicked the ball out for Ayew and Doucoure were infuriating.

Indeed, but if anything what yesterday's game showed is that there is a lot of work to be done and things shouldn't be taken for granted. The defending for the first goal was abject, literally kids down the park standard.

A very disappointing result but one I fully expected.
For quite some time I have been of the belief that this would be a challenging season and last night reinforced my view.
The manager has been sending out distress signals about our pre-season preparation and the squad being short of players and it is going to be a long hard season.
Talk of a top 10 finish is “For the birds”.

When was the last time you didn't have that belief? If your memory's anything like mine, probably too long ago to remember.

Shame we had to rely on Andersen to long pass to Zaha. White when eventually booked could have been under a lot more pressure if our midfielders found Zaha more often?
