I would much prefer not to.

That's not conservatism at all!

It's a nightmare of populist rhetoric being thrown like red meat to scavenging wolves.

That someone like that will probably beat the honourable, decent, law-abiding Liz Cheney is as strong an indication of just how far the standards of politics on the right have fallen in the USA.

How can this have happened? Is their education system that poor? Even recognising that self-reliance and small government are much more important to the average American than to the average European, this is something that ought to concern everyone.

I see a disaster ahead for the USA, because these people don't know the meaning of compromise, and to take their course would see the USA go back a century socially. This is a country in terminal decline. Without them, there will be a huge vacuum in world politics, which only the Chinese can fill.

If ever you needed to understand why Brexit was such a very stupid idea, this is it.

WE you are a conservative who doesn't like conservative policies.

By the way, it's Harriet Hageman....the women who will beat and take Liz Cheney's republican seat.

Really what freedoms are she fighting for, the freedom of the the politically appointed supreme court judges to decide what american women can or can't do with their bodies?

Is she fed up with that, in her rant she doesn't even mention it.

The supreme court didn't decide that.

They, quite correctly in my opinion, threw those decisions back to individual states.

The original decision was unconstitutional and was bad law.

Now, if the majority in a state want abortion they can vote for it or they can vote out a leader who imposes it.

Isn't that democracy?

As for the political nature of the court....I agree this is always a problem....whatever the country, whatever the politics.

Don't know the answer to that one.

No, I am someone who has traditionally voted conservative and supported the social democratic principles that people like Ken Clarke and Michael Heseltine espouse.

I am not a supporter of hard right policies or populism, which the party has drifted towards since the rise of UKIP.

Unless they return to the centre they won't get my support again, although my local MP is a diamond for whom I have great respect and some personal contact.

In England, at best she'd be treated like David Icke, at worst, Tommy Robinson. One can imagine the Guardian and BBC pieces.

Not like Icke because he is just a nut case. Perhaps like Yaxley-Lennon, although I doubt it unless she also has a string of convictions for violence.

I don't know of any British politician from the same mould. The USA seems to specialise in these loud mouth types, spouting anger without policy.

The pressure on Trump is increasing. The FBI have searched his Florida home in an unannounced visit whilst he was in New York searching for official papers, it is suspected he retained on leaving office.

Trump, of course, describes it as a "raid" and the "weaponisation of the Justice system". The White House are not involved, and Biden is deliberately keeping the Justice Dept at arms length to avoid any appearance of political interference. Not that that will stop Trump, or his supporters, presenting it that way.

As I have frequently said, be patient. No-one is above the law, but sometimes it grinds slowly. Gathering watertight evidence takes time.

The democrats are terrified of Trump. As one could have easily predicted, they will stop at nothing to stop him running again.

We live in shameful times.

The democrats aren’t involved at all.

This is being done by the Justice Dept, FBI and archive office all of whom are scrupulously politically blind.

Politicians make the laws. Offices of state act on them. Only the SCOTUS has a political bias, by the way it is appointed.

The Director of the FBI, who must have approved this, was appointed by Trump.

This is the law in action.. Nothing else, although that won’t stop the right presenting it as a political act.

Hopefully the open minded independents will be able to understand that. The Trumpkins are beyond reason.

I have always thought Trump would end up like Capone on tax evasion charges.

Probably a day before the next US election.

You rarely read of prison sentences here for tax but you can get a long sentence over there.

It ended his life really.

Just to cheer up our Trump devotees.
