Note that the Thames plant is for brackish not salt water.

I'm amazed you had time to do this inbetween your stints as the 'milk tray' man.

Yeah, and I used to be the king of Atlantis.

A big desalination plant there, run by the Plato Water Company.

They have replaced some of the sugar with a type of fibre that has the same structure.

Doesn’t taste so good and seems to be more to the tastes of a US consumer.

Hmm, not many people survive as ex Kings.

I hope they allowed alcohol in Atlantis and didn’t try taking away your passport.

Perhaps the 10 million extra people added to the population might be a reason why water is rationed every other year.

Just a glimpse into our future.

Water companies would charge their customers higher prices if they start major work on improving the situation.
The government needs to take action now to avoid permanent water shortages.

Does anyone believe they will?

Do you think that water prices should be kept stable but there should be increased government expenditure on water infrastructure?

Public ownership of water was high on Jeremy Corbyns list and the reason is that it has been the worst privatisation of all.

No wonder 83% in recent polls support re-nationalisation of the water industry, it is more like the mafia than a public service.

A vital resource, held for the common good, turned into a money-making machine for the few, often foreign/absent owners lining their pockets with taxpayers money.

The idea that private companies would be adequate stewards of the environment has been out of the window for years, their interest is only in profit, not public service.

Which few, often foreign/absent owners are lining their pockets? And which taxpayers' money are you talking about?

You probably won't be interested to know that water company shares are highly favoured by pension scheme trustees as low-risk, stable investments. Even pension schemes for the employees of trade unions - the trustees of which tend to have high ESG standards contained in their SIP - hold water company shares.

ESG = Environmental, Social & Governance
SIP = Statement of Investment Principles

You are only proving my point.

They are for private gain, not public service.

Try walking in their product.

Over 50 billions of public money has disappeared into their coffers since 1989.

And pension profit puts that in the shade I would guess. That though is the same as hmg gave away in furlough and grants. Not much comment on that from the left.

Desalination plants,...hmmmmm
The UK has spent many decades dumping stuff in the waters around our island, including raw sewerage.

I've probably drunk much worse,....
