We were very reliant on experienced players playing in a way that was far from adventurous. We are now playing in a different manner.
Milivojevic does not contribute as he did, McArthur is now 35 and injury prone etc etc.
We have lost the energy and aggression of Gallagher in that midfield 'Engine room', Kouyate with that ability to break up the play, and of course as I have stated McArthur has his injury woes.
I really don't think that Hughes or Riedewald provide that PL quality and Clyne and Ward are hardly getting any younger.
Central strikers Mateta and Eduoard have averaged a goal every 5 games in the PL.
Patrick Vieira has commented that the squad needs more players.

A little disingenuous on your part Willo, if I may say so, as last seasons's stats suggest it's 1 in 3 when looked at in terms of minutes played. as opposed to games in which they have played some minutes.

We have a few wide players now, unless Pat is thinking about Wilf through the middle on a more permanent basis perhaps

I think Wilf may be finally going. Sarr would be a decent replacement and it does seem plausible that a deal with Chelsea where either Loftus Cheek or Gallagher comes to us and Zaha goes the other way could be being considered.

One can examine statistics and interpret them in different ways drawing different conclusions.

I think if Wilf does go i think Hirving Lozano may be our target, my mate is a Napoli fan and says he is good but not outstanding, his last 148 games in Serie A and Eredivisie he has scored 54 goals and has 33 assists.

There is a tendency for people to "interpret them" in ways that reinforce their existing bias. Perhaps you could explain the methodology you used to reach your " 1 in 5" conclusion, so we can understand its validity better.

With respect I was not confecting statistics to give weight to any "Existing bias".
Looking at the available stats I was made aware that Mateta has scored 6 PL goals in 30 apps, Eduoard has scored 6 goals in 29 PL apps.

Carl isn’t always reliable at the moment I’d take what he says with a pinch of salt

I did not suggest you were "confecting statistics", I said you needed to share your methodology. It is clear that Doombear was using minutes played to give the 1 in 3 figure whereas you have now made it clear that you were using appearances to give the 1 in 5 figure. This is why I made the point that sharing methodology is important. Personally I prefer using minutes played, so that we can get a figure of "goals per 90 minutes" as opposed to appearances, where one appearance could be as short as 1 or 2 minutes.

Viera makes it clear the squad is not big enough, yet Benteke is let go, and this is no surprise as a move for him has been talked of for weeks. So could it be Palace have a player in the bag, but are just not talking about it. .? Or are we back to the Roy days of making do.

I am mindful that the debate under discussion is "Transfers", accordingly veering into a discussion about stats and "Methodology" regarding player statistics is perhaps taking the train off the tracks.

Who was the mystery young Chelsea player that was overheard saying that he was joining Palace on the following day - which was a week ago
