Just got home from having a Friday night drop in Croydon. Not one to assess the costs of a pint but when waiting for Mrs GM to arrive, I bought a pint of Beavertown Neck Oil for one in The Dog & Bull (great boozer btw) for a whopping £7.10. Lord Jesus.

My dear wife and I have returned from a visit to a renovated Public House about 50 yards from the beach.We enjoyed a splendid evening in the garden. Excellent service and very respectful clientele.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience in our local village.

I still offer barstaff a drink, on occassions.
However recently we were in Brighton for my birthday, offered barman a drink also, which he said he'd have later.
I believe the form is to ' take a half'.
paid by card & when I looked at receipt later the sod had added a fiver on the bill.

Spent all that money as well - my dear wife has expensive tastes !

I am partial to a pint but do not tend to drink at home unless we have people round.

These days I prefer the local micro pubs over the big boozers as they serve local ales kept well and you can have a chat.

I have a love/hate with Spoons as they keep lovely old buildings open but their business model is not great for small brewers and they attract some right 'characterd.'

But as a real ale enthusiast you can beat a well kept pint over a can any day.

And don't get me started on price. Was at Euston Station the other day and they wanted over £8 for an average beer in a bar in the station so went outside and paid far less for a far better pint.
