Some great comments on this thread.

At the risk of incoming flak I am going to say I always quite liked Giroud and thought he was underrated, only a tad but still.

I think a lot of players cultivate an image or mythology for being 'world class', or others do, which sometimes does not quite align with reality. Pele the obvious one for me. No doubt great but I wouldn't say the greatest. His ludicrous claim of how many goals he's scored too, including those into the goal he painted on his garden shed, very much encapsulates my point.

For my input, for now, I seem to recall Nicolas Pepe arriving at Arsenal for an astonishing figure and looking, quite frankly, 5hit.. For less than half that price they could of had Nicholas91 on the wing for them, I can at the very least move quicker then he can!

Also, I think the most racist thing I have ever heard in football was when Sandor Torghelle (spelling??) was badged 'the Hungarian Wayne Rooney'. A shocking belittlement of the ability of Hungarian footballers.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Perhaps they meant his preference for beer goggles.

Agreed.

when he plays well he is amazing.

It's just that it doesn't seem to happen very often.

another one.

George Best.....what's the point in having the talent of a Greek God when you have feet of clay ? Permanently sozzled. ManUre were right to sack him. After an amazing start, his football career became an embarrassment of shyte teams in crapper leagues.

From 1964 to 1970 he was brilliant and was a shining beacon in British football standing head and shoulders above pretty well everyone else in the game then.

Yes his career petered out but the 6 or 7 years he was in control of himself was worth 10 of most other players.

Not sure about Jack Grealish. Sometimes looks like there is a real player in there but he is probably less consistent than Wilf, so on that basis alone I would say he is over rated and was definitely over priced.

Maguire is top of my list, but then again he appears to be top of most lists for being over rated.

I am sure he will prove to be a top, top player and score many many goals in the Premier, but after the first weeks matches where admittedly he scored 2, the MoD pundits were literally fainting over Haaland. So desperate to have a superstar in the Prem that you'd have thought he scored 2 worldies.
Anyway, I hope he turns out to be bang average against us and Maradona incarnate against the weed.

Neymar definitely, if he wasn't Brazilian there'd be no hype at all. Pogba though, I've always thought plays to a standard slightly higher to a team he's playing in. For France he looks immense, for a poor Utd side he looked disinterested. The most overpaid player we had was Padovano, a complete waste of space, time and money.

I'll be honest and say even now I think Meyer was a good player who never really got a fair chance but I will also be honest and say I have no idea how they managed to stretch this video to 7 minutes
