If you don’t give power to politicians who do you want to give it to and how? I have often wondered if you truly believed in parliamentary democracy. I think we need to improve the way it works, by PR, give more power to MPs to control the government via secret voting and curtailing the whips.

I don’t though see a better system.

I will say that I did believe in parliamentary democracy.

However, I look at society and what's happened with the variance between what people want and what they get. I don't think it works properly. Unlike you I don't believe in what is effectively socially liberal elitist authoritarianism. I look at the decline in social metrics and I realise the damage done.

As for what could replace it, I've put forward ideas in the past but I don't really care anymore. It's not my place to design the solutions.

The beauty of democracy is that it is your place, along with everyone else, to design the solutions.

Moaning about anything, without having a better answer and then campaigning to convince others, is just a waste of everyone's time.

It’s rather difficult to respond to such a general assertion.

To answer in a similar fashion. There are, without doubt, more loons on the left than on the right.
I think the issues with Britain are more about the political class in general, but it would be fair to say that decisions are often ultimately taken by individuals.

When we look back at historical policy, it probably doesn't reflect well on either side of the house.

Could not agree more on loons on the left (sorry about that!). But they haven't been in power for some time.

How could we do that when we were in the EU. All 'solutions' were made by unelected commissioners. The MEPs that we elected by some PR rigmarole had about as much power as members of the North Korean Peoples Assembly.

All the time you believe that, nothing I will say is going to convince you otherwise.

You either believe in democracy or you don’t. The EU model cannot be similar to those of it’s members. Unless it federalises and even then it wouldn’t be the same. It is though democratic.

That's about as accurate as your regular commentary.....sounds straight out of marketing and about as honest.

If you can't elect the people that make the laws that govern you, then you don't live in a democracy.

You do now, and you did when we were a member of the EU, even if it was less direct.

Some things are worth making compromises for. Having a greater say in your own decline is a pyrrhic victory.

When we were in the EU we did not live in a full democracy and had our membership continued we would have become less and less democratic.
I repeat, if you can't vote for or against those that make your laws, then you don't live in a democracy.
