If mps have had a 25% p[ay rise since 2010, so dhould the workers , whats good for the goose!

On point yes if drastic cuts, I mean physical cuts were given I would support action. I was around during the late 80s early 90s recession. My pay halved overnight with reduced hours and none or single rate OT. Problem was there wasn’t much work around so all in same boat. If people don’t like what they have then there are jobs about so get a new one. Why don’t they you might ask !

Fair point but I am not sure how many people do look beyond the :headlines,' at their full t & c before taking a job.

And yes I work in the public sector and have done for years. I will retire in a few years on what will be a very decent pension.

I do accept public service comes with possibly better t & c's than some private sector roles but it does mean that I have over the course of a long career not been paid nearly as much as some who went out and worked in the private sector. Equally public sector pay has been a political football for years.

But I made my bed years ago and as I say will retire in a few years time on a pension that will be more than enough. I also have been able to see my kids grow up and be there when I felt I should be rather than having to sell my soul and work the silly long hours some do for the big bucks.

And before I get comments about public sector skivers I on average 60 hours a week when my contract is for 37 and don't get a penny on overtime and have to work with ministers of all parties some of whom.quiye frankly are idiots.

No vested interest here, and no "you're jealous argument" from me.

The bonus rule I think related to how non-exec directors were allocated shares.

I still don't understand how the UK Govt stopped HSBC paying a dividend, it is a share that many regular people, including me will have some hwere in their pension fund because it always paid a dividend.

 


Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I fail to understand the mentality of anyone opting to go on strike in protest about low pay at a time when the country is recovering from the costs brought about by Covid, is throwing buckets of money at the dangerous war in Ukraine and attempting to offset the extortionate fuel costs resulting from it.

Seems to me like there's a failure of folk to understand the seriousness of the economic situation we're faced with. Everyone is having to make sacrifices in order to keep fed and warm during the winter. Where is the money for wage increases going to come from.

Meantime, it feels like more people are on strike than at work.


Great post Old Geezer. Very much doubt the vast majority of have nots will support your view. Sadly this winter is going to bite very hard. I am predicting this winter is going to be VERY disruptive. Schools will be forced to close. Hosptitals will be overrun. Care homes will be forced to close in droves. Most pubs will have very restrictive hours and very little warmth. Few people will drink and eat out. Most people will not be able to secure enough food. But besides all that you can all watch a whole load of very rich young men running around in the heat of Qatar being paid fortunes to chase the ball. Tha winter of divide is imminent. Prepare yourselves for many shortages and major disruption.

I’ve recently eliminated alcohol. Expect pints to reach £9 in London central. I have thinned right down. My big concern is they won’t heat pools in winter. They will close. We are fast entering uncharted waters for anyone born after 1950. Eg most of us. The die is cast. Much resilience will this winter be tested severely.

During the pandemic we weren't furloughed, we had our hours increased with minimal consultation to meet demand. We did what was necessary often working 50 plus hours a week. Our reward an initial 2.8% pay rise. Someone posted that inflation will be at 3-4% by end of next year so what, it's now over 10%. Our shareholders got a bumper dividend and what we were offered was the equivalent of £228 per year. We have the right to strike and strike we will. Don't forget most of people working for Royal Mail are on less than 20k per annum.
