And yet victims in Oldham and Rochdale received apologies and damages for failures in investigation.
We can only be grateful for HoL being the only beacon of clarity, truth and honesty when all media is so obviously biased and conspiracy theories abound.

I don't know how we have managed to get back on this subject again when it has nothing to do with the thread. Wait a moment, yes, I do. The Font of all knowledge from the Fens decided to promote another of his routine diversions and misrepresentations, rather than stay on subject.

Of course, victims received apologies and damages for failures. If people fail, then compensation is due. Making people feel better via an apology is the kind thing to do, even when you know in your heart that the decisions taken at the time were well intended.

That we all learn through experience, or ought to, is obvious. We cannot though know what we don't know, or have not experienced.

If people failed through a lack of application or effort, then they deserve to be criticised. If they were incompetent, others do. However, if they just made decisions, which they truly believed were wise given the facts and knowledge at their disposal at the time, which have subsequently been seen to be wrong, they don't.

People here get very wound up when people of the past are judged by today's standards. It may surprise you to know I agree.

We ought not blame people who were slavers, when slavery was considered morally acceptable. Re-write their stories on their plinths, maybe, but pull them down. No.

This has some parallels.

No. The kind thing to do would have been to stop this situation 20 years ago but it didn't happen. This wasn't a snap decision; it was one taken and stuck to for decades despite all the evidence. If your conscience allows you to accept that then it's yours to live with.

.

As most of the popular press is right leaning that cannot be true.

I don’t take anything at face value, and recommend everyone to ignore the spin and evaluate things for themselves.

Using examples after doing that just helps explain, it doesn’t stop the evaluation.

Did you know 20 years ago what you know now?

Can we be so sure those taking these decisions did?

Or are you imposing your anger and assumptions on them?

Do you have all the evidence, or only that which has been published?

I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I just have questions.

No, I don't have all the evidence but what we do have has been dismissed as media spin.
Since these were on-going investigations the authorities knew more than they did 20 years ago but were apparently still maintaining the idea of trying to improve "community relations".

Ivermectin now officially classed as a cure.
Not a treatment, a cure.
No fanfare about this change of heart from our overlords.
I wonder why?

Where has that come from? Isn't it the flea and tick stuff for my dog?
At the height of lockdown I needed the stuff for my pets (every 3 months) but the vet was acting all funny - then I realised everyone had been getting it for themselves. I presume they didn't rub it into the back of their necks.

Not dismissed. Put in its context.

My instinct is that the idea wasn’t to improve community relations as an objective in itself but as a vital tool to both find the offenders and reduce the crime rate.

Holding enquiries makes perfect sense to examine the success, or failure, of a strategy, learn and improve. They aren’t trials to apportion blame on those charged with having to make difficult decisions. Much as some might like.

I am not convinced this was an overall failure. The communities involved will have read the reports, realise they were being treated sensitively but that they have bad people hiding amongst them. I hope that this results not only in greater detection, but in greater cultural pressure within the communities to ensure their more extreme elements conform with our standards of behaviour.

Source?

I have searched and find nothing that updates the earlier research which found no benefits.

Doubt the girls involved think it was much of a success or think they were treated with much sensitivity. What this approach did was empower their victimisers for two decades.
