Fracking has not been proved to be safe.
Neither has it been proved unsafe.

Cons are possible earthquakes and air and water pollution
But possible avoidable.

Only 2 sites were started here both shut down by a moratorium due to safety issues.
They were shut down because of public concern, not actual safety issues.

It isn't immediate, would take several years of drilling.
Each well takes 3-5 months to become operational.

There may not actually be much shale gas in the UK.
There might be.

There is obvious long-term structural damage.
Structural damage to what? The planet? A field?

It seems to me that you are being extremely conservative about this issue. More worried about what might happen than the benefits of the outcome.

The tory manifesto 2019 said they would not adopt fracking until it was proved scientifically safe.

They still haven't done that.

Tim, we will sink a well next to your gaff, ok?

Yep. Sink it now I say. If we waited for everything to be scientifically safe, the covid vaccine would never have happened. It's not scientifically safe to do almost anything. Everything has a risk. It's called life. Either live it, or hide from it.

Or in your case, blame all your deficiencies on the Tories.

I am with you Tim.
Whilst I suspect that it is a better way in larger Countries with large swathes of uninhabited land I am sure it would work in the UK as well.
If Truss were to cut all of the green levy stuff - for now - as well, then I would take great delight watching Swampy's mates getting in a lather through a wet and cold winter!

There is a degree of irony in you complaining about the manifesto.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Lifting the ban on fracking will make no difference, even if not dangerous fracked gas will be dearer than the gas we import.

There’s only one way out of this, which is renewables, nuclear although long-term, offshore wind, onshore wind, solar.

To actually reduce energy bills we must get off fossil fuels, measures like this are just jam today pay tomorrow.

As the technology is as present I think renewables get far too much hype. That they are the answer is what you have been told to think....because there is a lot of money wrapped up in it.

Don't get me wrong I think in many ways renewables long term are an important force, and perhaps the ultimate one. However, solar efficiency isn't at anything like what it needs to be on large scales...for most of the planet....and the cost is far too high.

Wind is the obvious bet for an island nation and we already have wind producing 75 precent of our energy output.....but as has already been stated a few times now, that only accounts for 6 percent of total energy needs for the country.

6 percent Steely......You'd literally need wind farms along every street and what do you do when she doesn't blow.....as the actress said to the bishop.

No, in my view nuclear is and always the wise investment.....but I think the politicians listened to the same advice you have and essentially we are now looking at a decidedly dodgey future....You should receive no punishment for your opinion but I think past politicians should be held to account for really bad decisions that affect future generations...not allowed to just swan off and disappear......I've become far more 'Carthage' in how I view consequences for elitist failure.

Wind farms have other issues to do with defence against attack but all systems do to an extent, especially nuclear (but modern nuclear is far far more safer).

I think future technology makes renewables a smart area for investment and greater energy reliance but the truth is it's not there yet and probably won't be until we are all bringing up daises. So all this front loaded cost doesn't make sense to me.

However I agree with you that fracking....from what I hear....isn't the game changer that many had hoped for it.

Not forgetting a significant home insulation package to make our draughty cold homes efficient.

Great to see the CONservatives taking up labours idea from a few months ago- if they just got on it then we wouldn"t be in this mess, or at least a few months in front- oh well, better late than never!

Now I know someone suggested you have low intelligence in a previous post somewhere, but I know different. You drove a Hackney Carrige and did 'The knowledge', so you do have the ability to absorb facts. However, sometimes, you seem to post some quite ridiculous drivel.

With this in mind, what acronym could 'Dreary(?)' be? I do like a good acronym, so please share.

Or do you not know what an acronym is? Which is fine if you don't, not everyone knows eveything.
