Indeed - In some far flung countries the death of a ruling monarch can be kept quiet for reasons of national security, to prevent civil uprising, to allow the readying of a suitable successor & enable the two announcements (outgoing / incoming) to appear almost seamless.

Exactly. There is nothing sinister about the delay between death and announcement. The Royal family would have to make sure that family and friends are notified first, would you want to hear about your granny's death on the TV?

Then there are matters of state. The government the opposition, allies, and embassies around the world would need to be notified for diplomatic reasons.

All of this would take time.

I can't stand Macron but he got he right on this.

"To you she is your Queen to the rest of the world she is The Queen."

He's right around the world if somebody mentions The Queen they are normally referring to HM rather than any other Queen. It's like in golf "The Open" rather than The British Open".

I'm not sure this will apply to Charles though.

He also broke with tradition and made the speech in English.

Its called respect. Something you were sadly not taught by the looks of it.

I don’t think genuine respect is taught, it comes from human decency and thought for others.

The notes of the Royal doctor do not say this.

You simply want to put a spin on the death of a monarch because you hate monarchy.

The announcement could have been made at any time regardless of the actual time of death.

This happens everyday particularly with cancer patients with a modern painkiller.

If you're interested, here's a link to a documentary claiming that George V was indeed murdered by his doctor.

The arguments are quite compelling, actually.

It's an hour long, by the way.

George V was dying, slipping in and out of consciousness and unlikely to survive more than a few hours, His doctor (Dawson) decided to speed this along slightly so euthanised him with a large dose of morphine followed by cocaine. The doctor admitted this in his diary, which was made public 50 years later.

This was fairly common practice in those days.

People seem to forget that diagnostics were limited, and far, far fewer drugs were available for treatment - penicillin for example was only discovered in 1928 and not available for general use until after WWII. Cancer was known of but not much about it, even bronchial pneumonia was frequently terminal.

Where death was inevitable (and usually to be long drawn out and painful) it was not uncommon for doctors to administer a large enough dose of pain killers to ensure that the suffering was not prolonged, and death was painless and dignified.

I make no comment on the rights or wrongs of this.

That's the official version. Dawson would appear to have had other motives for what he did.

It is also questionable whether the King's condition at the time was as serious as made out- who was it that was solely responsible for reporting his state of health? Yep, you guessed it...

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
