Just got a Notice of Intention to prosecute for doing 35mph in a 20mph zone. Didn't have a clue it was 20 and not 30mph on the road I was on and got caught by a mobile camera device.

Anyone had similar and what can I expect? Googling it suggest anything between 4-6 points and fine from £100-1000.

Brother got done recently for 91mph in a 70: £100 and 3 points.

Reckons your too far over the threshold to take the 'course' alternative and may depend on any existing points.

Sorry JB all I've got at this time!

Had a number of brushes with this issue over the years. I think you were too fast for a fixed fine, hence the NIP.
Plead guilty by post do your best with mitigating circumstances. Careful how you fill in the means form cos disposable income will determine the fine. You’ll probably cop for 4 points. Bottom line accurate googling. Good luck.

As above the fine is based on your income and the amount over the limit.

Normally the limit is everywhere, printed on the road/signs. Where was it and have you checked to see if any of the signs have been turned around by hooli's.

I got done for a bus lane but all the signs were turned and the markings had worn away. (hackney) Two months later they had fixed the signs and re marked the lines.

As a service engineer driving in london is an utter nightmare!

As you were at 35 (which is more than the 30 limit your chances of winning are low. This says £100 and 3 points for a guilty plea.

Been done twice in recent months - 78 mph on the M23 and 36 in a 30 limit in Bexhill. Both by "hidden" cameras (not the big yellow ones). Not been done for over 30 years before this.

It's a money-making excercise to which I keep falling foul.

I normally have the satNav switched on. Precisely to advise me the current limit and my current speed.

It is interesting how often the road signs have different limits to the software.

There should have been speed limit signs saying '20' as you enter the zone, and then repeated thereafter. If there weren't such signs, then you have excellent grounds for avoiding points and a fine. If there were such signs and you didn't notice them, then I'm afraid you are "done like a kipper", unless maybe you can prove that the signs were obscured.

I never understand this comment. No money has been made out of me because I stick to the speed limit.

But you see, YT, some of us are merely human and err. We're not all saintly. I'm in awe though. I've never actually come across anyone who has never made a mistake before.

Well done.

But you are twisting what I said. I never said I was saintly and I never said that I've never made a mistake. However, I have a Class 1 LGV licence and I earn my living as a driver, so I have a vested interest in keeping a clean licence ie not losing my job. Consequently, if I drive in a 30mph zone, I stick to 30mph. It's really that simple.
