today, 100 Years ago, the Treaty between UK & Ireland was signed.

Perhaps, with the benefit of hindsight, we would have done things differently. I reckon a 5 county Northern Ireland...95% Protestant , would have helped avoid 'The Troubles' ever happening.

Newry & Derry are not very Orange. And as for the Green bits of Belfast ? could they not have been bribed with a generous carrot to join their friends in Newry ?

The road to hell is often paved with good intentions. The establishment of N.I. was a good idea in principle.

And only the looney's today are still banging on about a United Ireland. Or other looney's banging on a lambeg drum to commemorate a battle in 1690. A battle most of the rest of the World would rather forget.

Lets hope the next 100 years will be peaceful.

Some people have been having babies. And other people not.

This demographic transition was never in the original blueprints for N.I. ( Red, White & BluePrints )

I look forward to a united Ireland one less problem for the rest of the UK. The taxpayer in the republic may regret it though.

Southern Catholic Eagle here. Eh, you broke the toy, you keep it.

United Ireland ? no thanks.

Have a look at the map. Tell me you will keep the 3 Easterly Ulster Counties...keep them as part of the UK, please ? Bribe all the Ulster Catholics to move Westward....and all the Ulster Prods in Fermanagh to move East ? It could help to keep the peace.

A shrunken NI and 98% Protestant.

The Shinners wouldnt like this, but they are a bunch of Lefty Tossers.

The Southern Republic is a total shyteshow anyway. Who the hell ever voted for any of its Train-wreck ?

Or we could give Dundalk to the North. That'll teach 'em.

i vote Drogheda should also join NI. Oliver Cromwell did fight hard for it to be British.

It seems such a shame that all his work was undone.

Outside of all the flag-waving and Disney inspired 'Orish' rose-tinted glasses, can anybody seriously offer one reason why the average inhabitant of Northern Ireland would be better off as a citizen of Eire rather then the UK?

Looking for practical reasons here. Matters of everyday existence. For example, something as mundane as say a visit to see your Doctor? What advantages does an inhabitant of Dublin have over their counterpart in Belfast?

Shops in the Republic offer a bulk-discount on the sale of Machetes ?

A bit like the partition of India. That went really well and you never hear it mentioned any more (except that I just did mention it).

if you use Welfare & Government grants to incentivise people to move East & West ? and do the transition over a 20 year time period ? then surely you can get a peaceful outcome ?

The original idea of NI was a Prod Territory for a Prod People. Still a good idea in theory.

The Plantation of Ulster was 400 years ago, its impossible to undo the actions of history. Nobody wants a United Ireland, except for Gerry Adams.
