With all the doom and gloom of money, wars, crime, bad health, stress and more could solace be taken with a belief in life after death. We know it’s a full on belief in certain cultures! Personally being catholic I do believe in an afterlife. A sprit world of a sort of utopia. I’m not afraid of dying as no one gets out alive. How do holers get peace with the thought of popping off.

strange one, is this.
unfortantly, i think we are buggered, this is it.
however, i also believe , a bit like dreams, you may re-live aspects of your life on a sort of loop.
So hell would be bad times and heaven ,constant memories of childhood, parents, friends just good days.
who knows?

There was no awareness before birth for over 13 billion years and that wasn't too troubling. A bit like teaching bottom set.

I think it is fairly obvious that there is no afterlife in the religious sense. Even the resurrection of Christ was added later as an embellishment to the crucifixion story.
However, as we likely don't know everything about physics or the realities of existence, it would be premature to dismiss the chance of a continued existence beyond death via some mechanism either natural, or more likely, engineered by forces hitherto unknown.
Why this might be or what form it could take is open to speculation, but with absolutely no information available, it really is just stabbing in the dark.
The probability is that we are strictly corporeal lifeforms which exist as part of the greater fabric of the universe and have a limited span which ends with death and that is about it.

If an afterlife did exist, isn't it somewhat presumptuous to assume that it would be pleasant? Hell is obviously a human fantasy, but we wouldn't know who made the rules or if it for our benefit nonetheless.

I take my peace / reconcile that I will die someday from knowing that in generations before us some were living with an average life expectancy of maybe 40, then 50 etc - I am now 62, growing up in my formative years my family were living a breadline existence, now when I look back I can say that I have enjoyed myself, had some decent jobs, travelled extensively, lived & partied hard & now am starting to feel my age, when I do finally drop into the box
(whether its today or in maybe 10 / 20 years time) I will have few regrets & will have left my family well cared for - as for the afterlife or if we get the chance to go around again, well lets see what happens when the time comes.

'Nothing' is an unfathomable concept to humans as we live in a physical world/dimension. We can't envisage or conceptualise nothing - it's not black, it's nothing at all. There will be no existence. The upside is - you won't know. You will know nothing at all. Weird isn't it?
Presumably the reason we invented the afterlife, plus the obvious reason that we're all pretty poor usually.

Obviously, totally different for the Queen though.

I went there from 78 and vaguely remember a fibre glass structure. Worst was the canoes which regularly stuck fibre glass splinters in your arms legs and torso. Bloomin child cruelty nowadays

Well Cryst, from you i detect a fear of death and an existential worry. Fear not. The oblivion we all go to is a harmless, painless nothingness. Like a very deep sleep. Without any annoying gods on horseback doing stupid things with thunderbolts.
