If that's the never ending 'should be the other lot in' line I am reluctant to agree. It's a turd show all round as things stand from my perspective.

The rest is a worryingly... very worryingly good summary of things.

I have a pregnant wife at home and our recent research has been somewhat defined as 'Where's the least dangerous location for midwives/maternity care etc.'. The NHS has to be one of the most underappreciated institutions in the history of Christendom. I say that with no personal stake in it via employment or otherwise.

It does just seem like everything is a shambles, doom n gloom etc at the moment. The Conservative party have lost the better parts of their identity and exacerbated the worst, the Labour party looks like the Rocky Horror Show and no obvious third option in sight.

God Save the King... and the rest of us at this rate.

I am happy to agree with you. I care less about who is in government than that they govern responsibly. That used to be the Tory Party, but no longer. I hope they find their heads again. It was the Labour Party for a short time, but they lost their way completely, and I see little chance of them ever recovering. It could be the Lib Dems, if they could get organised and backed. It could be the best from them all, coming together in the national interest.

I do have a personal stake in the NHS, as my wife is a nurse. She, as do most of her colleagues, only wants to serve but are finding it very stressful at the moment.

It ends with venezuala. Bottom line Sharing the wealth f***s everyone but the poor the worst. Anyhow these don’t know poor. When did the last person die of hunger on uk streets. Like100s of years ago but look east and west and it is happening daily. Not a clue mate not a clue imho which maybe jank but it’s an observation which can be countered. Good health my friend.

I think there is a problem of group think in the west. The situation we are at has been self imposed, all the decisions were decisions that had other options.

When times get difficult it's always going to be the already vulnerable who get it in the neck. All the virtue signalling ends and people's self preservation comes back to the fore.

Human nature doesn't change, despite the endless amount of waffle spoken.

This is going to be a very difficult winter but I hope that everyone gets through it.

Yes, I hope so too. On top of the recent $hit we mustn't forget we still have Covid out there in its various manifestations. We need the NHS to deliver booster vaccinations to protect people. That all needs to be funded and we need to keep the staff to deliver it.

There's a lot more to it than just tax cuts. We have public services screaming for investment and the inevitability of public sector cutbacks imposed by this government because there won't be any funds to sustain them. We live in a supposed democracy and these clowns were installed by a majority vote of a self- interested and probably privileged minority. That isn't democratic. The alternative is a Labour government or some sort of anti Truss coalition. It does not necessarily have to be left wing.

Certain public sector services do need more investment but there are also many that need to look at their efficiency. You read how the nhs wastes money on managers managing managers etc; and how councils waste money on vanity projects and totally crap endeavours and employees ; who are employed for reasons other than are they best for the job. It is only right that all of our tax money gets used in the best way for all of us.

I doubt the "left wing media", who-ever they are, are read by those who make the markets or internationally.

It's not whether you, or anyone else, will directly benefit from a tax cut, but what the whole package does to the economy. Paying £100 less in tax helps no-one if everything costs twice as much next year.

It's the lack of realism and detail about the funding that's at fault. It's the idea that trickle-down economics, which has been proven not to work in the best of times, will work in the worst. It's the analysis of the many experts that the package will increase problems, rather than solve them. It's the conclusion that the group of people behind this have no idea what they are actually doing.

The usual suspects are out defending this budget no matter what. I’ve given them some time to try and understand where they’re coming from, but I can’t see it. Can anyone help out here? Some of the things I’ve read and heard include:

The £ is back to where it was <choose time around budget>
(No mention of interest rates, bailouts, BoE buying gilts etc)

It’s because interest rates in the USA or worldwide and we’re pricing it in. Some say we’re earlier on the curve. Take your pick. Must be coincidence as Kwarteng spoke I suppose.

The ONS says we’re not in recession. It’s 0.2% growth. Recession is imminent. It isn’t going to reverse and rise.

The media have been harsh on the government. Talk radio have been pretty bad on this defending the government and I have my suspicions why.

It’s lefty traders lol. Yeah right. ‘’City workers I know say the budget is right. The prospect of a labour government spooked the market.’’

It isn’t the budget that’s the problem, it was the messaging, or lack of any. I would’ve thought that this would be very alarming when a PM doesn’t think through their actions and the consequences.

Mortgages, prices blah blah blah have been artificially/too low for a long time.

There are many more. I have just read this morning the error Truss made saying nobody will pay more than £2,500 on energy was intentional. They are so focused on making any bad news seem as good as possible they’ve missed that it didn’t make any sense. See how when asked about the economy she answers that she’s helped people with help with energy bills.

All I’ve read are desperate attempts from obvious staunch Tories. If anyone could find real credibility in this budget, Truss and Kwarteng I’d like to know. Hearing the timeline again of Thatcher’s reforms it makes it look even more nutty how early she’s gone in like a bull in a China shop. Which reminds me, I heard Mike Graham on talk radio, which has been poor on this, blaming the BoE for not tackling inflation. Huh? Either he is confused or blatantly defending what he’s been told to or would do anyway because Labour would have been worse. This excuse has to end. ‘’Yeah you can accuse us of being sh1t (cos we are), but the others would be worse, so accept what we do (lie, fob you off, treat you like children and pretend to have the talent to answer the question asked rather than the soundbytes written down that answer something else.’’

Wanting to make the rich poor is another of those extreme statements I keep hearing, like the ‘’you can’t tax out of a recession.’’ Both are exaggerations used to influence people too lazy or without the capacity to think beyond beyond fed something to satisfy their need to not have to rely on someone else. Anyway, sharing the wealth makes everyone poorer isn’t true anyway. It’s again another exaggeration to frighten and keep loyalty. Thatcher’ ‘’Pulling everyone up (and some up much more than others) rather than pull everyone down’’ speech in parliament had a lot of credibility, but it’s quite different to the stuff I’ve been hearing. Her words were accurate of course, probably thought through to begin with and targeting a socialist Labour Party rather than a sulk and strip the world doesn’t agree with truss policies that Thatcher didn’t implement for a while into her tenure and certain issues were under control. Ahem, certain aspects of the economy and inflation. What we’ve had is Truss pushing through everything now as she carries through the promises she made the nutters who voted her in.

It’s expect none of it makes any difference. Come the election it’ll be whittled down to

The party of high interest rates
The party of economic chaos

I expect I’ll spoil the in ballot box. Better take some hot roll.

I have been engaged in various conversations with a plethora of supporters and the consensus was that they broadly support the intended 'Direction of travel' whilst some were of the opinion that it would have been advantageous if the announcements had been accompanied by forecasts and details one is provided in a full-scale budget.Perhaps greater information might have prevented the disruption in the markets.
There were those who also expressed the view that a more phased introduction of the measures might have been more beneficial.

On that note, I now have to depart 'Up North' to visit a stadium in South London !

I suggest you look for a comparison to Thatcher online, because this is blatantly the thinking of the party. A direction of travel taken over years is very different to naively doing everything now and getting punished for her incompetence.
