I disagree. The majority of the population are not worth bribing or blackmailing but given the opportunity are no better, or worse, than the others.

Most MPs, in my own experience anyway, are driven by a desire to serve. I am sure that some aren't though. That's not though the point. The fear motive plays a huge role in restraining any temptations that they might feel. They are observed by their constituents, the press and their opposition who look for any opportunity to demonstrate a lack of integrity. They have codes to abide by which exceed anything that the rest of need to achieve.

Nothing is perfect, but the manipulation of public opinion by outside influences is a much greater danger, in my opinion, than any corruption involving MPs.

OK. That must be why we have such an outstanding group of over achievers in parliament. Our fault for electing them after these paragons made election promises they couldn't, or had no intention, of keeping.

It's all very well saying that this is the system in place, it's another thing entirely to say that it comes with public approval.

We are a trillion in debt, that's what comes of leaving these guys to make their own decisions. Would you be so accepting of that if that was the state of your personal bank account?

I can’t remember the percentages of people agreeing with the covid protection and furlough, but I bet it was high. Ageing population’s why. Then again, there’s definitely more telling people what they want to hear. And how long has that been going on in British politics? Since 2008 at least.

Anyone who believes that anything said during an election campaign is a "promise" is deluded. All any politician can ever promise is to do their best to achieve what they intend to do. Events then always blow the best of intentions off track.

My judgement is not whether promises are kept but whether, in the circumstances, those taking decisions did so wisely and in our best interests. If you don't like them, then vote for someone you do.

True.

It's like if a room full of great looking models offered you unprotected sex on tap you'd love it.

You wouldn't think about the STDs.

The British are hard wired to trust their elites.....especially the boomers stuck in bubbles of years gone by. For the younger ones they are learning that they are the expendables.

She is entitled, and indeed encouraged, to do so. But from the back benches! Cabinet responsibility means that after a debate, and agreement, on what policy will be followed, it's followed.

OK, I'll vote for the candidate whose lies I believe when he or she explains why the lies on which they got elected are not followed through.

What's the difference?

Yes this is what p1sses me off the most, and I know it does you too. Robbing from the young goes on and on. Nest theft under another guise.

Just because you don't like doesn't mean that the public as a whole doesn't. So test it. If you want the public to disapprove it, campaign on the issue and vote in a Parliament that changes it.

Until then it's what we have. You signed up to it by being born British and registering as a voter.

One is the government, which has a collective responsibility for what is done, whose members are expected to make and defend policy, whatever their personal reservations.

The other is not. Backbenchers are free to criticise. The worst that can happen to them is losing the whip, something I disagree with anyway.

They are vampires.

As the old saying went, they were meant to plant the trees of whose shade they weren't meant to sit in. It was planted for them by their previous generation who knew what duty was....But instead of doing that they voted for leaders who dug it up and burnt the roots.....then they gaslight the youth.

Left or right, they all turned out to be essentially the same.

The anger for what's been stolen is considerable....it's not just financial but I've said it many times.
