Its an incredibly difficult balancing act.

Any increases will cause a deeper recession and thus lower tax revenue. Increasing VAT will do the same.

We already have a stealth increase as the tax thresholds are being frozen for 4 years.

The delay in the next budget is to allow the government interest rates for borrowing to unwind after stupid truss.

They wont want to do anything to cause rates to increase again.

I believe anything they do will be long term such as the Covid NI tax which maybe reintroduced.

That's the inclusion, diversity and equity jobs that this sector....along with all of the corporate world has been spending considerable money on for about a decade now.

Any law or regulation that incentives it would be abolished and disincentives put in place. PR departments need to go back to what they were originally....instead of being the hotbed of waffle that they expanded into.

The other area I would cut would be governmental quangos, which expanded massively under Tony Blair and were essentially a way of giving jobs to their mates. It's a massive waste and should be cut down to size considerably straight away.

There are many good and vital people who work in the public services and its important services are protected....However, the above industries that grew up around them are nothing but sociopolitical weeds, starving them of money that could and should be used properly. A complete and utter waste of money.

Why stop there?

Why not close all the care and nursing homes and convert them into asylums and work houses? We could save an awful lot of staff and redeploy them into more productive areas. No doubt the residents would not live as long, but that doesn't matter, as they aren't productive. Post them some Covid and free up some space for the next batches.

We could reopen the coal mines, round up all the illegal immigrants, benefit scroungers and civil servants previously employed in the inclusion, diversity and equity sector, and send them down to work. That would help our quest for energy security. As climate change is a myth we can ignore that.

While we are at it, we should close all the McDonalds, KFCs, Burger Kings, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Curry Houses and convert them into fish and chips, pie and mash and jellied eel shops. Get us back to good old English food and kick out all this foreign stuff.

These improvements could be managed by you and your mates. After all you have all the compassion and understanding that make you ideally suited. Don't want you wasting your time in Quangos.

Insane....just full on insane.

Everything I stated to cut wasn't around before Blair and before the progressives started their victim culture nonsense, which has placed huge costs onto the public sector and purse.....It's nothing but expanded bureaucracy.

However, everything that this guy mentions that I'd apparently cut was in place. I literally stated in my post that public services must be protected yet this maniac just completely ignores that (if he even read it) and waffles on as if people like me would dismantle the welfare state.

It's so fecking irritating.

As for foreign food shops....well, we already have the recipe, thanks....not need for endless numbers of the third world.....More pyramid schemes that rob the youth of a future.

I would agree that it's often a job loaded with issues, however in some roles it has considerable job security over the private sector.

The size of the sector provides some security but it's becoming more typical for people to leave and take their experience elsewhere. Heaven help the NHS but across the whole of the public sector people will vote with their feet.

Agreed the whole diversity / equality manager role is just jobs for the boys err I mean girls err Trans well you know what I mean.

It is largely virtue signalling so that the public services and corporate can point at these managers and say "hey look we take it seriously".

There is actually a better way of doing it. When I worked in corporate we didn't have them it was made clear to me and every other manager that we were expected to obey the law which of course included discrimination. Then there is HR, I mean what exactly are those people doing all day this has to be central to their roles.

The problem with having specific people whose sole responsibility is this area is that everybody else then decides it's not their problem it's those folk.

The other problem is that if you appoint a Diversity Manager when you don't have a problem what is that person going to do? They will find problems and then demand more resources to tackle those problems.

As SS says it is a huge waste of money and resources you can obey the law without having to hire these people.

The new 'progressive' attitude has unfortunately amalgamated everything which is essentially anti-establishment and anti-traditional into one big pot of nonsense. This both paves the way for any inch becoming 10,000 miles but also inspires an attitude of 'attack one of us, attack all of us' or 'with or against us'.

Therefore, even the most ludicrous of notions get protection and to even question, let alone challenge, their existence is evidence of you being an enemy of this ideological nonsense and painted as some sort of villain. I maintain that this is the fragility of the failures who populate the support of these movement as they cannot possibly entertain the fact their anger may lie with themselves and not the world around them therefore any logical or common sense approach, discussion etc is off the table.

You should know this Stirling

Maybe, just maybe, your sarcasm antenna isn't working too well?

Whenever there are changes in society it is probable that some pendulums swing too far at first, and need correction. Things generally settle at a level of common sense, at which time there is a new normal and we all wonder what all the fuss was about.

Give it time and all will seem OK again.

Those weren't serious suggestions. They were a reference to where the suggested path might lead, a comment on an attitude and a general direction.
