A bit like in my Bromley days, people who lived in Downham used to just say they lived in Bromley!! I even knew someone who used to say he lived in Catford rather than admit he lived in Downham

I am informed that some who are resident in Redhill assert that their 'Pied a terre' is in Reigate.

You own paintings of your ancestors.
You inherited your furniture.
You bark "What"? if you haven't heard someone.
The public pay to look round parts of your house.

One has an acquaintance that does that. Quite startling when it happens.

Oh, and he plays the piaaarno.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Does he nip dine to the Rise & Crine for a pint of brine?

When I had the pleasure of working around the Crawley Gatwick area, I always used to think if I lived in Crawley I would just say I lived in Outer Reigate

Made in Bromley

You know you're posh when you get out of the bath to have a pee.

When you are described as "lovably eccentric" rather than "that weirdo".

I am in touch with some "High on the hog" types and in terms of a 'Garage' there is a proclivity for them to say "Garr- Arje" rather than "Garr-Idje".
One of them has addressed me as "Good day, kind Sir".

The only thing good about Catford is that it is not Lewisham.

I've always taken umbrage at the ambiguity here. 'Lewisham' is a London borough and people can sometimes associate the usage of the name with the small surrounding area of the town centre. I say I am from 'Lewisham' meaning the borough and occasionally people assume this whereas more technically I would call home Forest Hill. Depends on who you are talking to I suppose, just wasn't often I'd meet someone, especially professionally, who had the foggiest where Forest Hill was!

Furthermore, I do like the notion of being from 'Bromley' when you live in Penge, that always tickled me as beyond ludicrous bettered only by 'Dulwich' when you were from Brixton, Peckham or Forest Hill!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I've always considered Catford to be quite posh.

The local scallies used to charge 50p to look after your car when you went to Catford dogs. The kids on Moss Side only charged 10p when you were visiting Maine Road.

Indeed. And crooks his little finger whilst sipping said pint (jug with a handle, of course)

There was a story, I heard it about Glasgow, of a bloke who parked his car and was approached by some scallywags who offered to watch his car. He pointed out the slavering Rottweiler in the back seat and said - he minds my car. He came back to find his car on a bricks and a note reading - Hope your dog can change tyres.
