According to today's media reports:-

Labour would abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a "new, reformed upper chamber", the party has confirmed to the BBC.

Sir Keir Starmer told Labour peers that he wanted to strip politicians of the power to appoint people to the chamber in the first term of a Labour government.

He said that Tory leaders have handed peerages to "lackeys and donors".

The party is expected to confirm its plans in its next manifesto.

Has Sir Keir forgotten about the cash for honours scandal or is he hoping that the rest of us have?

So is that a USA type system where even less gets approved or dismissed.

the Upper House in most Parliaments is a irrelevant joke.

in the UK, mad drunken Lords prevail - to the manor born.

In Ireland, appointed political insiders are put into the seats as a reward for some other favours done. Loons, poets, political lobbyists, troublemakers, Lefties, retired ministers, eccentric academics, sexual deviants, & religious fruitcakes,

Both Upper houses are a laughing stock.

methinks of the right honourable Denis Healey going 'ho ho ho' when they were dressing him in the Red coat with the white trim.

Starmer is awful is the correct answer.Along with his hopeless, equally uninspiring shadow cabinet, which is a nailed on certainty to be in power in some two years.

God help the UK.Time to plan your exit if you are able,to avoid this shower.

This is just froth from Labour. And from a man who literally single-handedly gifted the Tories a 80 seat election win by way of pushing his own leadership, whilst destroying the faith of millions of people in voting, having only actually come into politics himself in 2015. And who then booted our Labour's most popular leader, who in 2017 got a huge amount of votes and is seeking to permanently exclude the man.

The fact that Starmer is where he is, and being touted as the next PM, is amongst the many factors that have destroyed the British faith in our political system.

The House of Lords is an irrelevance. Yes, ditch it but this idea that somehow that is going to restore faith in the system is an insult to our collective intelligence.

The Lord's is ridiculous now but for Labour to pretend they have done nothing wrong is such a lie.
I don't have chapter and verse about who they have put in recently but Tom the nonce Watson is one and that is a disgrace - Starmer should take a long hard look in the mirror on that one.
It should disappear in its current form that is for sure but only because there are a load of wasters in there - 784 in fact who can draw over £300 per day plus expenses.
Nice work if you can get it!

Labour plan to charge VAT on private school fees.

So Starmer has finally come out with a policy instead of sitting on the sidelines.

Actually I agree with him on this point, to a certain extent.

Most private schools have charitable status and Starmer is now planning on removing this.

I am not against private schools far from it but why should they enjoy charitable status and receive tax payer benefits when they don't actually help the public.

Most pay lip service to their charitable work and will roll out the odd poor kid from the council estate whose getting a freebie, it's not enough.

Private education is a personal choice but so if flying business class or eating in expensive restaurants. If you can do it good luck but don't expect the rest of us to subsidize it.

How should the Tories respond? Well for a long time I have complained about organizations that enjoy charitable status and don't deserve it.

For example there are many "charities" that are really left wing political campaign groups, then of course there are the dodgy rich people who use them as an unfair tax break.

It's time to redefine what charitable status is.

I don't have an exact definition but for example I would insist that annually charities publish what percentage of their income is spent on good works and any that fall below a threshold should lose it.

I think the public would be shocked if they knew how little of their hard earned money actually goes on good causes and how much goes on salaries, lavish lifestyle and offices in Chelsea or Mayfair.

None of this is likely to happen, both parties have too many vested interested so if Labour get elected they will pick on private schools and let the rest off.

Unfortunately this is a dick measuring content only in this case it's whose party is not as terrible as the other lot. Hardly a vote of confidence.

Where is the man of vision and principle.
