All journalists need to leave their personal beliefs at the door when writing stories for a proprietor. Unless they are asked to write an oped. There's nothing hypocritical involved in doing your job. The job that puts bread in the mouths of your children. I bet when you were a teacher you were expected to teach things you disagreed with. If not, and you were allowed free reign to teach whatever you believed in, there was something seriously wrong with the management of the curriculum.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I read that more than 50% of the BBC's Christmas output this year will be repeats. This has been the trend for many years I guess the beeb has just given up trying to compete with the streaming services. Still it hardly justifies there argument for being value for money. Does that mean I can send them the old cheque I used to pay my licence? On a more interesting topic the BBC has said they see the end of terrestrial TV (Freeview) in the not too distant future. For once I think they are right it will all depend on broadband coverage but I do think the end is nigh. Edited by Badger11 (08 Dec 2022 8.18am)

You are correct that the suspension of the Tory MP was mentioned on the main news page but the suspension of the Labour MP wasn't having been listed on the Politics page instead

I believe that good professional journalists do that, but unlike you I regard that as rather rare today. Besides the injection of bias doesn't only include what's written but what perspectives are omitted and often not covered. The difference between the opinion piece journalist and factual journalist was always a matter of degree, but today it might as well not exist in many cases. As for me my subject was IT and computing science so thankfully subjective topics weren't on the table. When I'd cover for subjects like history I wouldn't use it like some political opportunity, only the worse type of teachers do that. You would cover the topic from multiple perspectives because you are there to encourage critical thinking not whatever your politics are. Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Dec 2022 10.22am)

He once (1972?) threw a kid out of his class for wearing a Yes to Europe badge.
