Was going to title this under the name of the culprit however I thought better of even putting his name up. Absolute tragedy. She seemed a lovely girl from my very limited insight which I recognise could be incorrect. Apologies for the rant, but F-ing scumbag. I'd happily be locked in a room with him alongside immunity from prosecution. Very very sad. As somebody who is often to the right of social commentary, I do utilise news such as this every now and then to take a moment to laugh at myself and imagine my reaction were the ethnic origins of these names reversed. A piece of $hit really is just that at the end of the day and I hope he absolutely rots or somebody takes the hit and does him in. Some people do bad things, are misled, have a moment of insanity/weakness etc and some really are just subhuman. I believe this perpetrator qualifies as the latter. Apparently he refused to appear in court when sentenced, the coward. The accused has the right to face their accusers well the guilty should be made to face their victims and families. The Yanks don't stand for this nonsense they shackle them and drag them into court if necessary. It's time we did the same over here.

Firstly a horrendous crime. But the biggest question is why this man was allowed to be on the streets in the first place? Our justice system, yet again, has proven itself not fit for purpose. This man was clearly a menace to society. He has 28 previous convictions for 69 offences, including burglary, assaults on police and members of the public, criminal damage, theft of motor vehicle, driving offences, offences committed while on bail, and shoplifting. He is a mad dog. And there is only a single course of action that can deal with such people. We need to completely replace our current system so that people who prove not fit to live in civilised society are permanently removed from it. For decades I believed our justice system needed reforming. Now I am firmly of the opinion that it, along with much else of how we are governed, is beyond saving. This young ladies life is of far more value to our society than 10,000's of scumbags like the one who murdered her. And we, collectively, have to face up that.

Whereas for those same decades the reform campaigners have (basically) striven to keep as many offenders OUT of prison as possible, or as a last resort to keep them in for as short a time as possible.

It's not just the soft sentences it's the ease that people get bail. How often do you hear about someone charged with murder or a very serious violent offence and they get bail, ridiculous.
