We are the new Coventry City. We would not fill a 40k stadium every week, but we would get 30k+ crowds regularly if we got the new stand - Leicester, Southampton and the weed all saw a jump in numbers with the right stadium. It's going back to pre-Sainsbury's but we got 23 attendances above 40k between 1969 and 79 - I remember 40k v spurs in '77 in Div 2. We got 45k (or more) v Chelsea in the Cup in 69/70 - the following Saturday we got 22k at home to Forest - this shows the massive fair weather support lurking in Surrey which we've never seriously attempted to exploit. Tony Pulis pointed to the real possibility of growing the club when he was here. We should aim for the Wolves, Leicester, Southampton level of size and expectation - a top 8 side who in a good year could break into Europe or win a cup. Brentford are doing wonders, but reading some stuff here it seems people think we should have their level of expectation - we are a bigger club than that - it is dangerous to over reach yourself but we have shrunk as a club since Sainsbury's reduced capacity and we are entitled to expect the right level of expectation from the owners, and the new stand is absolutely key imho to getting us to where we should be.

Southampton's old ground 'The Dell' had a capacity of only around 15,000. When Southampton moved to the new ground their crowd's doubled immediately and I believe they had the highest % increase of all clubs that season.

Perhaps there were thousands of Southampton supporters who could not visit 'The Dell' on account of the low capacity and the increase at 'St Mary's' was purely due to the fact that the capacity was double that of 'The Dell'.

I believe that we have only recently received the Premier level which meant that up until then other teams could pinch our local lads and ladies. Hopefully in the future we can bring in the youngsters and hold on to them.

Our potential is insane! I work with young people in south London and seen in the last 10 years how we’ve gone from a bit of a joke to a cool, desirable team. Young lads in south London now respect being palace. To be fair I work in schools and is the younger black lads who know are Zaha and Eze as role models. Obviously immigrant population and less ingrained like some of the whit lads who are Charlton and Millwall no matter what because of family history and rightly so in my book. Also from an adult perspective I bring mates in the homesdale who support villa and spurs and they love a day out at palace at lots of blokes second teams who would defo watch us if they could get a ticket every week. We would easily fill 35k in my opinion much like west ham would have to start with cheap tickets etc but would work in the end once they see the ultras and have a good day out.

My problem is the manger and team I’m currently watching they have to be attractive which at the moment they’re not passing around the back and creating very little. Also very little huff and puff to even get behind but that’s for another thread!

Up the palace!

Surely the main stand will be condemned before much longer. A new stand would at least be something tangible to show for our longest run in the top flight (rather than the £600 million sp**ked so far on players wages).

My biggest question is why is our wage bill so high compared to the likes of Brighton? Is there any money left for transfers? I doubt it.
