I hate the modern game , continuous messing with the rules , the cheating , KO times to suit TV with no consideration for the fans who even get s***e on from above by their own clubs .

Players showing little effort when they feel like it , e tickets , little chance of watching the occasional away game ,all seater stadiums ,rubbish beer and , and .....

I was talking to someone about going to the gym every weekday morning and I said 'It's a f-ing nightmare motivating yourself to actually get up and go but you're always thankful afterwards'.

With Palace, it's the other way round - I feel like a kid again with the excitement and build up but it's usually awful and I regret if afterwards, having to work on getting on a train and not throwing myself in front of one as I feel far worse than I did beforehand.

The first great love of my life though and I can't change that now. Occasionally, just occasionally, it does bless you with a sense of euphoria that makes all other woes, trials and tribulations completely dissipate for a short period.

The cups have pissed me off this season. Players getting millions a year didn't give a sh1t that the Palace fans wanted some excitement with a cup run. God knows we get nothing but the odd scalp and avoid relegation in the league. It's becoming a pointless and ultimately untenable position.
However, I will still be there at the next game. Living abroad my next game is Liverpool.
I mean, who could miss staying at the Premier Inn at Croydon Station and drinking in the Wetherspoons in Croydon, maybe even the Ship, wonderful times? Then there's always the fanzone where I can see Parish turn up in his sports car and have beer in plastic cups or bottles. Only a few hundred quid per game - well worth it.

Red and Blue Army!

It's a strange phenomenon, isn't it? I have a friend who's an Ayr United fan, they're playing Cove Rangers away twice in a week. From where he lives to Aberdeen is about an 11 hour round trip by train but the thought of not going hasn't, and wouldn't, cross his mind. He's not even Scottish - comes from Romford and in earlier life followed Orient all over.

Great stories as to why we go and not being able to stop. Only time I stopped was when Alan Mullery was manager and the football was dire. I took up referring so that I had something else to do on a Saturday afternoon to keep me occupied. I also did Sunday football as with a young family then money was short. Even then on a Saturday as it was mainly Croydon parks and an early start due to light going (no floodlights for me) I would ride over to Selhurst and watch the last 20 minutes as the gates would be open. I still couldn’t keep away :-)
My next issue will be my wife and I retiring this year and with her working in a school we will now be able to go away outside of school holidays. We have a turkey 2 week break later this year and I will not be able to attend Palace. Fixtures for next season are now in my mind as to how many matches I will miss. I could fly back for a game or two ;-)
