Really? All those extra children don't put additional strain on the NHS? It's also a fact that smokers' net contribution to the tax system is greater than what they cost.

I would like to see the evidence for the second claim but even if true the tax system, including NI, pays for a great deal more than the NHS and it’s obviously true that anyone needing to use a resource more because of something they could have avoided is using a greater share than the average.

Every person puts a strain on the NHS. Not all smoke, take drugs, drink excessively or otherwise behave in irresponsible ways.

It’s a fact that most immigrants are young and are lighter than average users of the NHS. They generally want to work and will pay tax, even if some disappear into the black economy.

Why is it irresponsible to enjoy yourself? If the NHS can't cope then it's not fit for purpose. It exists as a service not to decide who deserves treatment based on how abstemious they are.

They won't be young forever.

Smoking, drug taking and excessive drinking cannot be simply categorised as enjoying yourself. They harm the individual, and society through the additional cost of health care, so are irresponsible behaviour to be discouraged by every available means.

Of course not but by the time they age they should have contributed at the same level as those born here, without costing society the need to educate them.

The suggestion that immigration puts an additional financial strain on us is false.

It is impossible to say with any certainty. It is a very complex matter and very much depends on which figures are looked at and who is presenting them.

A very Calvinist approach to life.
Since both tobacco and alcohol (don't know anything about drugs) are prohibitively expensive they are quite effectively discouraged as it is.

Their children still require school places.
