FFS let's move away from Conor Gallagher. He was great for us on loan last year, but

1. He's playing fairly regularly for Chelsea, even if it is as a sub a lot of the time. He plays in most games and therefore will still think he can become a regular.

2. His form has been patchy, other than against us.

3. He'll be incredibly expensive, due to his performances with us. What £30 million? Too much for a club like us, when we have several positions to fill.

I think we could do with 2 midfielders. McArthur won't play this season and what happens if Doucoure gets a month long injury plus.

Personally, I think no one will come in. The signs are there that something is very wrong with transfers. We were light in the summer and we are being linked with no one other than rehashes of old stories and ex players. Parish has hinted that expect nothing in.

Hate to be full of doom and gloom, but it's difficult not to be.

I certainly don't expect us to spend £30 million on Gallagher, nor want us to when we ideally need another 3-4 players

Fully agree - time to move on with CG & AWB talk

I think a lots of us are nervous

End of season out of contracts & injuries & players who
Are just not able to perform consistently in premier league.Either
getting old or do not have skill sets

Parish has Ploughed all money budgeted into Academy & Stadium
None for Jan window but come End of Season They will need to work very hard
if Academy have no shining stars

I feel for Patrick as he looks vexed he knows Parish now has treated all
player investment like Scrooge.

Well that’s Palace ! Draw our way to not be relegated

Forever Palace Proud

Nah it's the board's ready made excuse,

"We tried and failed to sign 2 top class players" (we were told no chance at the start of the window but decided not to move onto to other targets).

You're as cynical as I am Badger. Think you've hit the nail squarely on the head.

Think we just need a couple of midfielders. Can be next years squad players, because we only have 2 who are Premier League standard. That is shocking and something that needs seriously addressing.

Agree with all the above.

I'd be quite happy with a 2 or 3 who can 'do a job' as opposed to chasing a single player and then perhaps another 'prospect' from League One who ends up going out on loan to League Two or some farmers league in nowhereland.

Personally, I don't think we have the cash for any 'big money' signings but it's an area of the pitch that needs resourcing and not even upgrading.

For me, there's a difference between saying 'we could really do with someone who can play in X position better than X for the first team' and 'we look light on numbers, who can even step in if X gets injured etc.'.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Sometimes you just need to plug the gap.

If we cannot afford a young top class midfielder than we should buy a hard tackling midfield grafter from the lower leagues.

I recall many years ago we signed a full back from Plymouth as a stop gap they were probably 2 divisions below us. He was one of their all time appearance players at the end of his career. I think we got 6 months out of him but it was mutually beneficial he got to play in the top league at the end of his career and Plymouth let him go as a reward for his services.

I cannot believe we can't find someone like that to shore up our midfield until the summer.

Absolutely bang on. This is the story.

I've long believed and posted many times in the last six months that I thought we could get Conor back and that it was worth pursuing. But whether or not I was right, it's now time to move on. If Conor had any interest in returning and Chelsea wanted to sell, at this point it'd be more than wishful thinking...things would be happening if they hadn't already happened. Conor rumours are at this point no longer even interesting; that ship has sailed. They're like a bit of flirting from a girl you know isn't even going to give you a hand-job but you'll miss out on shagging her sister while you wait in hope and expectation that she might deliver.

And as Badger says, the club is extending the conversation simply to give themselves an excuse for doing f*** all anywhere else in the market, where a deal might actually be had. Frankly, Parish should ask himself why Conor would want to return to a club that shows so little ambition, and that so singularly fails to support a manager with whom Conor himself appears to be so close. Our owners have already demonstrated they're more interested in buying the club Conor plays for than Conor himself.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Totally agree. We just need at least one more 'decent' midfielder and striker. A 2nd midfielder and another left back wouldn't be bad either. Luka, Riedeweld and Mateta should only be options if we have a few injuries. McArthur has probably already played his last game for us.

A few years ago Frazier Campbell was ridiculed, but he was our 4th choice striker. I suspect he's on a similar level to Mateta as he's our 2nd choice striker.

The amount of rebuilding that will need to be done in the summer (no matter league we are in) means we should be getting some players in now.

It feels like it could be exactly what is happening.

But I can only hope that Parish and Dougie are smarter than that, and all the chatter is just the media writing stories to fill the space.

Because they will then ask Pat at a press conference, who will say, yeah we'd love him if he is available. And then that will be another weeks worth of articles.

It is highly unlikely that he will be coming back here

Firstly, he doesn't want to leave Chelsea and will only consider leaving if completely frozen out, which is not happening at present.

Secondly, he will be highly sought after. Whilst we would probably be his preferred choice, we simply cannot compete with other clubs financially.

I really hope we are not putting all our eggs in one basket.

Move on, and start looking at other midfielders. We need 2 more decent central midfielders. There are possible stop gap loans out there if necessary.
