Been impressed with Richards and when Andersen returns maybe a back 3 with Guehi might be an option ?

It most definitely would be if we had wing backs, but until then I doubt it. Richards to RB where he has played for Bayern

Definitely worth a try at RB.

Wardy is done now

I think Clyne, for now, has to be default choice at RB. Ward indeed looks done; his nous and reading of the game are letting him dodge a lot of bullets because he no longer has the physical attributes to stay out of trouble. If he's an inch out of position, he gets done for pace every single time. He's just about got away with it so far with a combination of effort and great timing in late tackles but it's not sustainable. At best, Ward is now no more than emergency cover across the back for the rest of the season and even then, only if we're really short of bodies. Great, great servant of the club and one of our best transfers ever, but his time has come.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Joel Ward has been a great servant to the club however his time is done, it comes to everyone eventually. . Don’t know if the club are trying to wring every last drop out of Ward hanging on hoping Ferguson will come through to fill the berth. If not they should seriously be trying to source a quality RB.

You only have to look at what Trippier did for Newcastle yesterday going both ways. Not suggesting for one moment we splash £40m on an international full back, but you get my drift.

Ferguson will never make it to the first team, he wasn't that good before his injury.

As said previously you need wing backs to play 3 which we haven't got . It also takes the wingers away which nullifies the strongest part of our attack (yes I know) .

Its good we have competition for places

And we still need a striker

A distinct possibility. All we need now is to coax Cafu and Roberto Carlos out of retirement and we're sorted.

Both Tyrick and Clyne could play wing back.

We could then play 5-2-3 in defence and 3-4-3 in attack

They could physically stand there but the ability level to which they could play it is a different question. I wouldn't say that either provided evidence of a sufficient attacking threat - Clyne especially.

Regardless of personel the (tactical) point of wingbacks is to create space for them to move forward . This happens by playing a narrow 3 in midfield and two up top leaving the wide areas free .

As Ambrose has mentioned we dont have anyone (bar Schullp at Leicester) who has ever played or looks capable in the position .

I personally like 5-3-2/3-5-2 as a formation , its just all wrong for the players we currrently have in the squad . We would be putting square pegs in round holes all over the pitch just to accomodate one centre half

Whilst Richards has done really well, I wouldn't be rushing to shoehorn him in.

3 at the back is fie, if you have the other players to compliment hte formation, which we do not.

I'd be more interested to see if he could do a job as a CDM
