What exactly do you expect? PV has actually done better league positionally than Roy, who originally inherited a decent squad. When that side was run down and out of contract PV had to pick up the pieces and start over.

Hardly Hodgson's fault that he didn't have Guehi, Andersen, Gallagher and Olise in his squad

Well said.

In Potters second season at Brighton, there were a large number of their fans wanting him out.

This time last year, Arteta was being slated by Arsenal fans ( as Martin Tyler mentioned in his commentary yesterday ) who were wanting PV to replace him.

As a club I think we are still in a transitionary period. There's bound to be bumps in the road.

As I often say, the right to moan as a football fan should remain a valid outlet from minute to minute on matchday and day to day outside. However I think some sage comments have been made this morning.

I still very much see us as transitioning, which if/when complete can never come soon enough. I still think financial investment is needed in playing staff and PV has many a lesson ahead however the fear of an inevitable catastrophe always somewhat distorts the reality as a Palace fan.

A few more points and God forbid a player or two before the end of the month may just mitigate that.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Just like a young player he is still learning. More to come.

I would not hold him accountable for the squad, ie. He has said he wants players but the issue appears to be with the hierarchy.

However, there are a couple of issues with him (and they are no different to when Roy was here).

He clearly has his favourites. How Schlupp gets in ahead of Hughes is baffling. Playing Ward ahead of Clyne is another one.

He doesn't give any of PL2 players a chance. Ozoh came on the other night but only for a very short period and that first youngster who has played any PL minutes for quite a while.

We have put in some awful performances yet PV still resists on using any youngsters. You don't know how good they are until they are played.

I thought we might have passed the Roy issues.

are you seriously comparing, two finished CDs and a crap left back who could hardly get in the team, to Guehi, Andersen, Gallagher and Olise. Crackers

I don't think they were '' Roy issues '' to begin with.

It's hard for youngsters to break through into any first team these days, not just Palace's.

Sometimes a young player will get an opportunity by chance, but it's usually the case that their manager, eg Paddy McCarthy, has recommended them.

There were posters on here crying out for the likes of Rob Street to be played. He's hardly pulled up any trees at L2 level while out on loan.

Of the current crop of youngsters, Ozoh looks the outstanding prospect. I think he's got the physicality to make the step up as well as the talent. And he's been fast tracked into the first team squad.

More bad news. Frank's been sacked. No doubt Everton will get in a half-decent manager and shoot up the table like Villa did post-Gerrard

They wasn't finished when they was with us were they and could have added Townsend but couldn't be bothered. So 2 England internationals, a French and Dutch. Yeah terrible.

Like many others I find aspects of Vieira’s management irritating at times. A failure to identify when things aren’t working and make early changes, an insistence on playing Schlupp and Ayew and not playing Hughes, not starting Mateta or Edouard and then bringing them both on and a reluctance to give any of the youth players a start. What’s the point in spending a fortune having a top class academy rather than redeveloping the ground if we aren’t prepared to give the youngsters a chance to show what they can do? While we are 7 points clear of the relegation zone there isn’t anything to worry about but things can change quickly. Let’s see where we are in 10 games time.

I am with Pompey Eagle on this.
I like Viera and want him to succeed but he does make some strange decisions at times with his team selections.
The starting line up on Saturday was weird to say the least - yes - 3 days after the previous game but these are super fit pro's.
We are Palace so i don't expect Pep to walk through our door - just a bit more joined up thinking working with what we have a available.
PV is still a work in progress but let's hope he works it out soon.

Several experienced managers walked (or should that be 'ran') away from the daunting rebuilding challenge post Hodgson. Vieira was man enough (and perhaps desperate enough?) to take it on - and didn't he do well last year?

A touch of second season syndrome, perhaps, and fans disappointed that things haven't progressed as quickly as they would have liked?

IMHO, Vieira is learning - the last 3 games are pointing to that. Not pretty but the best way for a team with limited resources as we have to take on the moneybags of this league. Chelsea, who have probably spent more in the last 12 months than we have in our whole PL existence, were lucky to get a 1-0 win against us.

I'm happy for PV to stay and see out his contract. I suspect if things go OK it'll get extended because he's not going to Arsenal quite as quickly as some once thought.
