Don’t you trust the government.

Since 2018, a dedicated team of cost-recovery experts has been established to work with trusts. The expansion of this team will help the NHS to reclaim outstanding debts from overseas visitors who are required to pay for their care. These experts will work with existing cost-recovery managers in NHS trusts to:

provide additional time and human resource to help identify patients who should be charged, easing the administrative burden and speeding up the process
ensure the rules and exemptions are universally understood and consistently implemented in hospitals across the country, including making clear that urgent treatment should never be withheld
help improve the reporting of income and debt collection, ensuring chargeable tourists pay debts in full
The team will also help the NHS understand and implement the charging rules and processes for EEA visitors and migrants as part of preparations for leaving the EU. After Brexit, EEA nationals living lawfully in the UK can continue to use the NHS as they do now.

What has been tugging my nuts for the last four -ish years, is we have a government so out of its depth , in terms of expertise and leadership, that has caused a massive drop in living standards , is still capable of jobs-for-the-boys and tax evasion and pillaging of COVID contracts is still in with a fighting chance at the next general election due to a complete absence of any viable opposition

I think I'm on the same page.

Oh for the days when peasantry such as myself were not privy to information and could therefore blindly follow politicians and parties that may have actually stood for something!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The Conservatives a party of the rich, for the rich.

They can't deal with their own bent ex-chancellor for 5 minutes because he is just like they are.

The impotence of Sunak has replaced the chaos of Johnson. With the Tories in charge, Britain has become a country with a government that hopefully cannot do anything of importance.

Sticking unfortunates on a plane or Rwanda, spending hundreds of millions on identifying EU laws to bin and sending a few tanks to Ukraine, so what.

Do US Presidents and European PMs and dignitaries stroll into Downing Street as they used to, meeting their friends?

We are just not important, anymore.

TBF HK, money has been reclaimed from non-EU citizens ( nowhere near the outkay admittedly). Persons owing money could be placed on watchlist. I also spent many hours contacting hospitals and GP Surgeries advising that certain persons were not allowed to claim NHS treatment. Unfortunately the vast majority were not “interested” in assisting BF

Probably a bit busy trying to keep the whole thing running whilst hugely under-resourced. Was this before or after the Government put in a whole £1m to target recovery of NHS charges?

You can see why there is a lack of bandwidth to do such things if you read information from the Kings Trust:

According to the Office for National Statistics, the proportion of managers in the UK workforce as a whole in June 2010 was 15.4 per cent. These statistics also show that there were 77,000 hospital and health service managers across the United Kingdom, or 4.8 per cent of the NHS workforce. In other words, the NHS has a managerial workforce that is one-third the size of that across the economy as a whole.

While the number of NHS managers has grown in England since 1997, figures for the other three countries of the United Kingdom are static or falling. There may be a range of reasons for this, but since 1997 England has seen a plethora of policy initiatives that have increased the requirement both for management and administration. These include targets for waiting times; new regulators; published measures of hospital and PCT performance; expensive staff and patient surveys and more extensive contracting out of a wider range of support services than in Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales.

It was after and many felt that BF should not be “interfering “ and they will treat who they want. So not totally the fault of the Government and definitely not fault of BF.
Maybe the NHS could save money by not recruiting diversity Officers at inflated sakaries

I agree about the Government but “unfortunates” on a plane!, Really! Albanians are not asylum seekers, even WE has said this. Maybe if we had put the unfortunate Afghan “minor” on a plane, an innocent Brit would not be dead

There's probably quite a few UK nationals who would want to be on a plane to Rwanda that live as they are in the UK

I'm really looking forward to all our problems being immediately fixed under Labour.

I'm sure allowing thousands of illegal immigrants to stay here and promising spending that can only mean higher taxation or even more borrowing is exactly what this country needs.

I haven't been following this thread and don't know who BF is. Are you referring to Basil Fawlty?
