I think it’s going to be an interesting few months down at money pit Stamford bridge how the hell they are going to keep everybody happy is going to be interesting. I really cannot see the likes of Gallagher, Lofus Cheek, Kante etc getting any game time warming the subs bench Yes and possibly coming on in the last few minutes of a game. Potter has in my opinion stepped into an avalanche where decision have been made over his head. Instant results is now on the addenda, keeping everybody happy another headache. I honestly think Palace intention is to go for Gallagher in the summer everybody at the club has said how much they want to bring him back reports say that the player himself wanted a loan back here. The loan deal with Arsenal for Lokonga does not include a buy option and with Milo not playing as in past the concerns over McArthur injury fitness and both the wrong side of 30. What better time to strike.

Conor needs 4 months to sit on the side-lines and get frustrated before we have a chance.

Hopefully with the signings they have made that's exacly what will happen. They enough midfielders for 3 top 10 teams, madness.

I don't recall him saying that, but I do think we're clutching at straws thinking we can bring him back.

As much as I loved him at Palace, the chances of a return seem highly unlikely mainly due to the added value his performances with us contributed and also his own lofty ambitions. Especially if, Heaven forbid, we're relegated.

There is clearly an abundance of warm feelings for the guy on here, but I am surprised this thread is still creaking along. And now I am guilty of adding to it!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

As I've said elsewhere, I think this is 100% correct. And it's an easy deal to do now, finally. Why? Because....

1. By the time the summer window opens, Chelsea, with their vast squad, will have decided who they're keeping and who can leave. So they'll have made up their minds about Conor once and for all. If they decide he can go then...

2. His price has already been decided so no negotiating is needed. If they accepted £40-£45M from Everton, then if he's available and you bid that, he's yours. Thus, the deal can be done in 5 minutes.

3. As for Conor wanting or not wanting to come to Palace (or anywhere else), there's no need to speculate. See above: if Chelsea is happy to sell and we bid the asking price then we'll find out if Conor wants to come or not. No discussion is needed. The deal will happen or it won't literally within the first week of the summer window.

I can't see Palace investing £40m in one player.

However, if Zaha leaves at the end of his contract it will free up £130k per week in wages.

I would agree as a general matter, but it seems to me that for better or for worse we've been totally obsessed with signing Connor on a permanent deal for a year now so if ever there was a player we were going to break the bank for, he's it. As we knew two days ago his price (£40 million Everton bid was accepted on Monday), presumably if the Lokonga loan signing was indeed a case of keeping our powder dry until the summer then we can surmise that we're willing to meet the Conor fee. Personally, I want the Conor deal sorted either way in the first week of the next window and after that I never want to hear or see the words "Conor Gallagher transfer" in the same sentence again.

Gallagher purportedly wants a club who are in Europe if Chelsea tell him he's not part of their future plans. Whilst they were not willing to sell him to Newcastle this last window, that doesn't mean they won't sell him to a rival in the summer.

Also given the transfer work that needs to be done in the summer to continue the refreshing of the squad, then, like Neillo, I don't see us spending that kind of money on one player.

Much depends on what happens on the ownership front between now and the summer, of course (and how much money, if any, has been put aside for the new stand).

Finally, there is the question of how our new midfield options work out and whether Arsenal want Sambi Lokonga back. I think he cost them about Euros 17m.

I don’t think he’s worth £40m to Palace. Must be better VFM in French or Belgian leagues IMHO.

Another thing we can blame Brexit for. A few years ago Palace were in Europe :-)

I think he is. If rat face from Everton can collect $45m, there's no reason Conor isn't worth 40. He's three times the player Gordon is. He transformed us last season to the extent where I think he's worth breaking the bank for. $40m actually isn't that much in today's market remember.

TBF the original post did state 'worth £40 million to Palace'.

I think there's a stark contrast between what qualifies as VFM for the likes of us and what some conglomerate, corporate entity or Saudi hijacked club is willing to pay for schmucks like Gordon.

That said, he may well be worth the £40million in terms of final league position and any possible further success we could achieve but perhaps that's too risky and long a shot to take for our owners?

Needless to say the loss in revenue from not acquiring an available CG could equally be inspiration enough to justify it? I have enough about me to entertain the thoughts but no real knowledge as to how it may pan out. If Chelsea were to accept <£25mil I'd like to think we'd a least throw a hat in.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
