Thanks Willo. My point was they’ve spent a King’s ransom trying to get it right (€100m on Lukaku or £10m plus £160k a week for Aubameyang) and still can’t score…

Leeds losing today was actually good for us.

I would like to see at least 3 points from our next 6 games.

Re. the odds on NF to go down. Probably not been updated after todays game.

The forest win today was very much like us under Hodgson. They got dominated at home, created probably 2 chances, took one and mostly defended solidly. It looks like it'll keep them up. Hodgson did brilliantly for us but I wouldn't want to return to that style of play.

We're not great at the moment but I think despite the current tough run of games there have been some signs of improvement. The next 4 games are clearly massive as we play a big rival, an out of form team and two midtable teams. We need to show we're competitive in all 4 of these and be picking up points. I'm hoping for 4 or 5 points with some decent encouraging performances.

Well I'm only quoting your words back at you.

I think you may have forgotten Frank de Boer.

Our mentality is all wrong and the handling of Shaun Derry proves it.

He has more crystal palace in his DNA than PV... the passion, the spirit, what it means tot he fans... Derry going into hat room roasting the players was an extension of the fans.

Getting rid of him, for his lack of passive emotional control, rather than his failings as a coach are all wrong.

Someone once said, is it a cultural thing... well, the modern culture, showing up in catwalk outfits and sponsored items for social media, the not shouting at players, the mega money involved... that mentality is not and never has been crystal palace.

Is it any wonder the fan base is so fractured, is it any wonder we are stagnating.. all style, no substance and PV can pretend to be the strong silent type, but the football does the talking and right now it's stammering towards relegation.

We have no leader, no work horses, nothing...

This was once a quality forum....

Forest now level on points with us and bang in form. Just looked at the Betfair exchange and they are 4/1 to go down yet we are 12/1. Not sure I understand that one

Perhaps it’s who the teams have left to play?

Is the Pakace DNA being a yo yo club? Perhaps we are trying to get away from that. At the end of the day if SD was undermining PV, he had to go. I’m not a great believer in “his Palace, so can do no wrong”. Think Ian Wright

Havent forgotten De Boer, impossible to judge after 4 games

That's funny, that's exactly what Steve Parish did.

Turning the clock way back, Malcolm Allison had grand ideas of expansive football being played by Palace. I remember he even wanted to widen the pitch at Selhurst to give more room for passing down the wings. He was a highly regarded coach that also coincidentally had spent a successful spell at Man City. It was all a fine and commendable ambition, but again didn’t match the capabilities of the players at his disposal. Sure there were exciting times when it occasionally all came together, such as the FA Cup run in 1976, but ultimately what Allison achieved were successive relegations from the First Division/Premier to the Third Division/League One. He then failed two years in a row to get promoted back out of the third tier. Now I know this was back in the 1970s and many will say it’s ancient history. But as the saying goes ‘those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it’ and if the current board and management continue the way they are it could all happen over again.

Really good post, but to some extent I have to take issue with the paragraph above, not because the facts stated are wrong (you're entirely right) but because it ignores the denouement of the story.

Everything you've said is true and, in the end, Allison left but not after "two years of failure", but rather after two years of failure to achieve promotion which is slightly different.

What cannot be contested is that while Allison never reaped the fruit, he did plant the tree. He changed our style and led the transition to and initial success of what was then the best youth setup in the country. The reinvention of Palace occurred under his watch. Yes, he didn't get us over the hump; it was Terry Venables who did that (and reaped the dividends) but without Allison doing the legwork and rebuilding our entire philosophy, there's a strong argument that the Team of the Eighties would never have happened.

All this leads to a valid question. If Vieira is, as you suggest, possibly a latterday Malcolm Allison and we moved on from him at the end of this season but, in two years' time we found ourselves in Europe, how much more fondly would PV's critics today look back on his time as our manager? And equally, if we had stuck with Big Mal for another twelve months, would we have won the promotion that Venables led us to anyway? Just food for thought.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.
