Firstly, apologies if this immediately riles anyone but I am posting as it does somewhat bewilder me (as opposed to rile).

Bloke seems to be in every other news story of late. I have to admit he did infiltrate my social media a while ago and to begin with I honestly thought it was a character off of a sketch show or something, I didn't realise he was an actual person.

If I'm honest, I still don't know what to make of him but do wonder as to why he is such a celebrity and newsworthy now? I am guessing it is because a lot of the things he says are controversial and opposed to the current narrative. Would seem as though (from what I've seen/read) there is a fear that he is indoctrinating young men in a way almost directly opposed to the far bigger attempted indoctrination of them now. I would have guessed, from my limited understanding, that he is saying things that appeal to the mindsets of 14 year old boys in terms of rubbishing females and western society whilst showing off fast cars and expensive watches. I do understand, I was a teenager once, but is this of any relevance/concern to grown adults that needs to be taken seriously?

For me it is a very prime bit of evidence for my stance that a lot of news/media is dominated now by two opposing factions:

1. The 'left wing' sensationalism of everything begin racist, misogynistic, offensive, in need of 'cancelling' etc. etc.
2. A 'right wing' of people who need to be brought to attention to oppose no.1 as evidence for the necessity of their prominence.

Suffice to say i could very well be wrong in my thinking but would be interested to hear what others have to think of him, especially if they have any real knowledge/insight (as I do not really)? I don't think of the whole media frenzy being of any relevance to my life in any way really but you know, is it? Am I missing something? If not, why is it on BBC News all the time as if we need to be aware of him/it?

Again: bizarre and bewildering.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I have a friend who was massively into Trump (far too much for any balanced view) who always starts telling me about Tate. I never particularly care as he's always on about these kind of things. As you say, kind of a right wing guy somehow. I'm not sure he's the best example by any means.

I think that's the target audience ASCPFC.

As for the best example, I completely agree of course however he has obviously come to prominence through some sort of 'shock commentary' not too dissimilar to the unhinged types on the left. IMHO it is constantly bombarding us with a distorted view of the world where you have to identify with one or t'other with no outlet through which to look upon both with disdain.

Some interesting points here:

Previous research shows that modern sexism predicts political attitudes and voting behavior that are detrimental to women's empowerment and liberalism.

We theorize that (perceived) increases in competition between men and women provoke modern sexism among young men in particular.

Our findings highlight the role of perceived competition between men and women in modern sexism and contradict the argument that older generations are most likely to backlash against progressive values, potentially adding to research explaining the recent backlash against gender equality.

So, in answer to your question, yes it really matters. Tate is a sign of but also a driver of incredibly nasty attitudes building up largely amongst young men at the lower ends of the social scale. And this is happening in a country that is seeing sexually related offences increase quarter on quarter.

CPS figures below:

Notable changes in the data from Q3 2021-22 to Q4 2021-22 include:

a 7.7 per cent per cent increase in pre-charge rape referrals from the police, up from 1,097 to 1,182 (this includes both cases referred for early advice and requests for charging decisions)

the volume of suspects being charged for rape this quarter rose from 550 to 643, a 16.9 per cent increase

the volume of completed rape prosecutions this quarter increased from 661 to 675, a 2.1 per cent increase

overall, a 62.9 per cent increase in the volume of rape prosecutions from 1,557 in 2020-21 to 2,537 in 2021-2022

a 2.4 percentage point reduction in the conviction rate for rape cases from 70.7 per cent to 68.3 per cent.

a 1.8 percentage point increase in domestic abuse conviction rate from 76 per cent to 77.8 per cent

When I was doing a delivery I once went into the warehouse into which they unloaded the raw sugar, in silvertown. It was amazing, the sugar went up a hopper and dropped into a massive pile, releasing a lot of suspended sugar into the air. The whole place tasted like candyfloss.

I think that's the most interesting point Maple.

I have a daughter myself therefore I find any attempt to empower her, as I do any to empower anyone, anywhere, a fantastic and worthy cause.

What angers me is that this 'empowerment' is often portrayed or identified as 'competition', in the most negative possible way. I would suggest this is down to it being hijacked by self-serving ideologues who of course go too far in operating off of resentment and anger as opposed to intentions to serve for good. They therefore present any empowerment of others as a threat to their own given group and start sounding off rallying cries for war, pitting individuals against one another. They also preach what they believe to be 'empowerment' of their group whereas in reality it is just an attempt to disempower and belittle others.

I would imagine the draw Tate has, if any, is to fight against any perceived threat to young, very impressionable, men. It looks as though he has weaponised this for financial and personal gain through social media. As previously mentioned, even on my brand new, work issued laptop, the moment I opened YouTube he was there in the 'shorts'.

From what I have gathered, and I may well be wrong, he made money through the sexualised 'webcam services' employing young (and often vulnerable) women, moved to Romania with his brother and lives a life in which he refers to himself as 'mafia', spends a majority of his time drinking coffee and when not working spends his time ranting on various issues online. What he has may constitute success to him so fair enough but I actually see it as quite a sad existence, certainly not for me anyways (imagine getting to Selhurst Park from eastern Europe every other weekend). Is this any sort of model for young men to operate or aspire to? Is this what many young men would want given a balanced view on life? Or equally importantly, is it just young men hearing things from someone who paints themselves as living quite a juvenile dream that contradicts a lot of negative media they constantly get about themselves?

No such thing as 'toxic masculinity' IMHO. There is however a misattribution of what constitutes 'masculinity' from what I've seen/read these days.

Close to the site of the largest explosion ever to take place in London. 1917 when a TNT processing plant went up. The explosion was said to have been heard in Norfolk, while the organist at a theatre in Finsbury Park was blown off his seat. 73 people died and many more were injured.

The other bloke's former home - Barrington Court in Somerset - is well worth a visit if you are ever down that way.
