Why is this dubious? I can sack members of my team at work without having to ask the CEO. I'm expected to know how to hire and manage my department.

I think PV has the right to decide how he wants to manage his players. If Sean wasn't talking to players the way Vieira wants, then that is his prerogative

Although we lost, we put a lot of pressure on them in second half, so Vieira's half time team talk seems to have been effective? Pity about Derry. One of the Palace greats. Maybe he was better with the younger players than the first team squad?

Fair enough, but there must be some disciplinary rulebook you have to abide by, no? Verbal, written, final warning, dismissal?

Furthermore, had Vieira not followed the club's disciplinary code, then Derry may have a case for wrongful dismissal. But this is further speculation, excuse me...

I’ve just read an interesting piece in which Alex Ferguson says that his old ‘ hairdryer ‘ method wouldn’t work with todays generation of players …..

Yes, you are probably right, soon they will have their lawyers for team talks

This is probably the crux of the matter. Especially if this issue had been highlighted before by PV, discussed at length in private between the pair of them and still not taken onboard by SD.
There may have only been so far PV was going to pushed on whatever the issue was and clearly SD crossed the line.

Maybe the club will announce something when Shaun Derry has a new position elsewhere, as at present as he may still be employed by the club and therefore technically hasn't actually left yet.

Correct.

The thing is we don't know whether this is Derry's first offence? It is entirely possible that he had been warned previously about his behaviour.

It is also unclear what the offence is yelling at someone may earn you a written warning, using racist or threatening language will get you fired.

It is also possible that Derry was offered a way out as the simplest way for both him and the club to save face e.g. you resign and we will pay you X.

I can imagine that Parish would prefer someone to go quietly rather than a messy PR scandal like Ian Mooney.

All speculation until someone talks.

or maybe united being reduced to 10 men for the last 20 minutes had a bigger impact on the game.

Why do we start so slowly almost every week? Maybe PV's approach isn't working and Derry wanted to get them a bit more fired up.

All speculation but it is pretty clear that something is not right at the moment and the fact that we run less than any other Prem team per match is a damning statistic

It's a pity but if he didn't have the right approach from Vieira's, then hasty la vista
