It will make a mockery of the Premier League regulations if City get away with simply a fine thanks to a serious legal campaign. They need to pay a heavy price, and possible relegation, as a lesson to all the 'moneyed' clubs.

The number and scale of the breaches they've made is staggering when you think about it. Since benefitting from the huge injections of Abu Dhabi cash the club has behaved with complete disregard (allegedly) of the rules to, effectively, buy success.

All this is quite sickening when we consider how well our beloved Palace have done for a fraction of the cost.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I'll tell you what makes it worse for me P.O.G is that whilst they may not feel this way at all, if the same were to happen to Palace I would somewhat feel robbed of the club being a fan.

There has to be a real connect with a team to truly love it in all it's glory and ugliness. If your club does become the plaything foreign trillionaires, people all over the world wearing the shirts instead of those you instantly deem to be kin when you notice your colours, you can't get a ticket to a league fixture let alone cup final or what have you and all of a sudden the crowd on matchday seems more fitting for the opera than a football game, I'd feel as though a huge part of my identity and an experience I absolutely cherish would have been stolen away from me.

It really is football 'selling it's soul' at the end of the day for me as opposed to anything to be celebrated. As someone previously mentioned I would actually welcome a super league if it got rid of some of these teams which now better resemble corporations. My only argument against would be for the true fans who've been disaffected by this.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The major problem I have with FFP, is that the established 'big clubs' are in favour of it. Man Utd, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus etc it gives them the natural advantage and means other clubs can't buy to compete with them. What's worse a complete closed shop or clubs spending obscene amounts of money to try and break into the cartel of already super rich clubs?
Personally, I have found the likes of Chelsea, Man City and now perhaps Newcastle spending to try and break the natural monopoly somewhat refreshing as the likes on Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal remonstrate and complain they may be left without Champions League football.
No matter what the league do to Manchester City, it will be established big clubs that benefit, not the Palace's or Fulham's.

I don't think it's clear cut that MCity have broken any rules. they certainly have done the 'right thing' and have attempted to defend themselves - this is no proof on innocence, mind. Remember that The last time Uefa tried to penalise them, the court of Arbitration threw it out as the claims, originating from "Football Leaks, Der Spiegel", were said to be incomplete and biased.

I hope the Premier League has not based the 'older claims' on this or other suspect sources, and that their claims can be genuinely proven.
If ManCity is cleared of all wrong doing after this the PL will look Rather silly.

One thing is clear, FFP is in no way a means to stop clubs buying championships. Financial 'Fair' Play it is not. Nothing about it makes the league fairer.

I fully agree with you Nick. Or, as Willo would say 'I concur with these sentiments'.

I love the family feel of our club and it would be a travesty if it were lost to money. Mind you, I wouldn't object to one of our owners lobbing £100m into the kitty right now!

A perfect demonstration of the paradox that is modern football.

I see the Qataris now want United.

Let them have that one, very few genuine fans there.

It does look like the endless money pit of a European Super League looks a more viable product so the rest of us can get back to supporting the clubs that we have a genuine connection to and can experience football in all it's relevance, as opposed to just a spectacle for those who've never really played therefore understood the game.

I'd far sooner see our little patch of London play against a team from a little patch of t'north in a true geographical if not cultural battle than the 'Qatari Reds' play the 'Saudi Arabian Magpies' or 'Sceptic Blues'.

I saw (via the BBC's football page) that Simon Jordan has said 'Nobody wants to see City neutered like a dog' on the back of the Daily Mail.

I thought to myself 'my name is not Nobody'.

I don't care at all what happens to any of the fake rich clubs. That now includes Newcastle. The stadiums can burn down for all I care, or they can piss off to a super league. All the same to me.

Great movie though. He’s a tough cookie
