If anyone is offended perhaps the best thing these students can do is not get out of bed in the morning.

I suspect many of them don’t!

The House of Commons commissioned a report on 'Prevent', the state funded quango whose supposed aim is to stop people from becoming terrorists or terrorist sympathisers.
The 'Independent Review of Prevent' by William Shawcross has recently been published and can be found in its entirety on the web.
In the Executive Summary (section 1.5 of the report) is the following: "Prevent has a double standard when dealing with the Extreme Right-Wing and Islamism. Prevent takes an expansive approach to the Extreme Right-Wing, capturing a variety of influences that, at times, has been so broad it has included mildly controversial or provocative forms of mainstream, right-wing leaning commentary that have no meaningful connection to terrorism or radicalisation. However, with Islamism, Prevent tends to take a much narrower approach centred around proscribed organisations, ignoring the contribution of non-violent Islamist narratives and networks to terrorism. Prevent must ensure a consistent and evidence-based approach to setting its threshold and criteria, and ensure it does not overlook key non-violent radicalising influences."
Of course, this has caused uproar amongst the usual suspects - as no doubt it will also do so on here amongst our reality deniers.

Racism in police deaths

[Link]

I guess any death is a tragedy but this anti police report should be challenged.

23 black people died in police custody versus 86 white. According to the report the 23 is 6.4 times the general population of black people.

But are these the correct measures?

Wouldn't it be more accurate to measure deaths against the number of people arrested I suspect that would tell a different story.

Another relevant metric how many black people arrested suffer from mental health problems versus the equivalent white number.

Anyway I look forward to the BBC challenging this report as i said above 1 death is too many but I am suspicious that in general it is related to racism and more likely mental health issues.

Yep, but the people heading organisations like Prevent didn't just magically ascend to their positions. They are promoted there by government. Then we get these reality checks.

When Labour get back in the loopy policy will go right back in.....probably be twice as worse.

What is true matters not a jot to these people.

What matters to them is whatever is most likely to keep them in their jobs.....From top to bottom that is how it flows.

From the Salem witch trials to today this is how insanity can gain a foothold and it's well entrenched today as we have had decades of it.

As we get older those of us who remember less fruit and nut times still have to watch with wonder at how all this was allowed to happen.

The boomers abandoned their posts unfortunately.

so hundreds of fatal Islamic terror attacks in Europe, and the full force of the Law is brought to bear upon little Johnny ( 14) who wrote a few sweary words about Raheem Sterling on Twitter ?

sounds like the lunatic asylum that our World has now become.

I don't want to over attack conservative voters because at heart they are my people and I'm the black sheep as it were....I'm the guy who came to realise that Hitchens was right about the conservative party and that its leftist infiltration meant that it had to die to be reborn again.

I'll never be as critical as Hitchens was though because while I point out the fruitlessness of 'house price' conservativism at a fundamental level I understand why people still cling to the Tories....even while the parties leadership itself betrays them and treats them like fodder.....It's an identity and any identity on the right is under huge attack nowadays.

However, I say that to say this.

What has been revealed by this report on Prevent and the reveal of the reading list by Murray and the Daily Mail needs to stress an important point.

The unit that created that media list as some kind of extremist pipeline. The unit that works with dodgey activists in certain 'anti' organisations and funds them to the tune of many millions, wasn't set up by the left.

No, that unit was created by and funded by the Conservatives. Tens of millions of tax payer money has been spent on organisations that literally view anything right wing as extremism.

I say to my conservative brethren, reconsider Hitchens analysis. When your own party disowns you then at the very least a root and branch reform is the very least that needs to happen.

Personally, Hitchens thinks its gone beyond the point of saving.

For myself I think that when you don't even get a say in electing your own party leader he has more than a point.

Leo Varadkar, Hilary Clinton, Macron, all deeply unpopular with the rank & file. Foisted upon the populace with often disastrous results. And Sunak ? you tell me ?

Democracy has always been largely a myth.

The vast majority of people who make the decisions that affect your life are not subject to any and are simply appointments.

Every state is a propaganda state which teaches its citizens that it lives within a fair society.

I would say that this was traditionally more the case in the west, as in less nihilistic more self confident times it maintained less corrupt institutions. However, the growth of leftist ideologies and the consequences of the idealistic egalitarianism that neo and social liberalism believes in has and is eroding that considerably.

Today's managerial elites are about the centralisation of power and are significantly disconnected from the masses...and in many cases view them with a rather arrogant contempt. They are the new aristocracy and, in my view, their lack of loyalty makes them far worse than that older version.
