Somebody whose name I am familiar with however his footballing career preceded my life. Would be interested to hear if anybody does have memory of him. May he rest in peace.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Before my time as well but looking at his record - one more goal for France than Mbappe in 8 fewer games, 226 scored in 248 league games & 30 in 21 for France - he must've been some striker.

RIP.

Indeed! Think he also scored 13 goals from 6 games in the '57 World Cup which seems insane. Happy to be corrected if wrong.

I'll correct you in that it was 1958!

Played in a era when there were goals galore. Think many teams had a 2-3-5 formation. Look at some of the results in the 1958 World Cup.
None the less, still a fantastic scoring record. I wonder how much he would be paid a week now if still playing. Probably more in a month than he earned in his entire career.
RIP.

My boy (9 year old) read a book about World Cup history, and now he knows more about that era than me. All those early years had some amazing players like Fontaine, Kocsis, Wilimowski, Puskas and interesting histories.
