The Boers in South Africa comes to mind. Apartheid.

both the Boers and Ulster Loyalists seem to encourage their kids to marry off with partners from the in-crowd. Almost exclusively.

It is no accident of history that the Ulster Loyalists also engendered the Hillbillies of Alabama.

the British PM has gone to NI , to visit his British brethren & their erstwhile minority Catholic irish neighbours.

when the subject of the Protocol arises, no doubt Leo Varadkar will behave like a t0sser. The most unpopular Taoiseach in the history of the ROI.

i'm surprised at the apathy on here.

scummy behaviour from all sides of the political spectrum......culminating in the greatest risk ever of Re-kindling the troubles.

the 'RA shot a cop in Omagh last night. Luckily he has survived.

Not in ten years do i remember such a tense standoff in NI.

Protocol schmotocol. The political deadlock is nothing at all to do with the Protocol.

but it IS about some anti-democrats behaving like a fella in 1930s Germany, a fella with a little square moustache......

Jim here is complaining about 'Terrorists in Government' yet somehow fails to mention UVF terrorists. A bloke whose party represents less than 8% of the votes in 'the Province', and he is working hard to stop any form of political progress or the formation of a working Government.

Needless to say SF are the other cheek of the same @rse. And in their own way, just as intractable, unreasonable, and arrogant.

what a clusterfv.ck !

follow the link, and please provide me with conflicting evidence or opinions....

I'm sick of the sight of every single one of them over here! Politicians that is. My uncle was a deputy speaker for the SDLP around the time of the good Friday agreement. Spoke to Seamus Mallon at my uncles funeral. Let's just say he was less than impressed with all parties at the time and that was 5 years ago. Seamus would be turning in his grave now.

You would think everyone was sick to death of the NI situation and would just want it resolved. Then you get a younger generation taking over the reigns in society and it all changes again.
There's more then just two sides to appease now. This generates splinter groups, who it becomes more difficult to negotiate with, then it all kicks off again.
And there's always "old scores" to settle, and running the drugs and criminal gangs.

Personally I would threaten Eire with giving them NI, no strings attached.

Please expand on the Loyalist/Hillbilly history.

As for encouraging inter demographic marriage you can include, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Quakers etc etc.

The Ulstermen I know here are cautiously hopeful the amended deal will be acceptable to all sides.

Economic near normality will help improving the economy and therefore society.

It seems to be a generally accepted fact before too long the Nationalists will have a voting majority, if there is ever a vote in favour of unification that will signal a new round of violence, I am not sure the ROI wants unification.

I would expect there would have to be a referendum south of the border.

In just a few days, the union is safe for quite sometime, Scottish independence on the back burner, and if the Windsor agreement is accepted, the unification of Ireland is history, if they at a later date were offered a vote on unification, would be like turkeys voting for xmas, unification would mean NI becoming part of Europe therefor a border compulsory, all the advantages gone
