And therein lies the big problem.

Parish doesn't have the funds to divvy up for his share and I don't think that the others will inject more funds without changes in both the shareholdings and voting rights

Edit - Unless we start selling players

It was 100% the right thing to do to not let him go when there were bids of 50 mill plus flying around for him, I think it was great work from parish even after Wilf had made it clear he wanted to go. If he had gone we would have lost a lot more than 50 mill as we had absolutely nothing to offer without him and would most certainly have been relegated , he was our only outlet. Sure he’ll go for freee now but he has given us a lot more than 50 mill over the years!

I do absolutely believe we do have a plan , not sure if anyone has mentioned rak sakyi on this thread ? I know he’s only playing in league 1 atm but he is going to be a star for us in my opinion that’s why we banged him with a 5 year contract before he went out on loan ,
It will be a time of worry when Zaha leaves however I do have full faith in the board to sort out the situation.

On the first 'bold' I am of the opinion it is often underappreciated, by some, the extent to which Zaha has been critical to any success we've had including preserving PL status. He is absolutely pivotal and has been so absolutely agree.

On second I do not 'disagree' however I have an overriding anxiety that wants to believe there is no plan. That is bereft of any logical or objective analysis however, purely emotional

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Whilst we need to get some bodies in, I can’t see us spending 100m.

I also doubt we’ll sell this window, unless the offers are ridiculous. But I don’t think anyone has been playing well enough to get a ridiculous offer.

We’ve shown that we can be fairly shrewd, and broadly, a c.20m player goes straight into the first team (CD, JA, MG) and a c.10m player is a squad player to grow into the first team or deputise for he odd game (CR, NA)

I reckon we’ll do:

Lokonga c.20m
Back up CM c.10m
Young RB c.10m
Young CB c.10m

We won’t sign a new striker
We won’t sign a direct Wilf replacement
We wont sign another LB

That’s just being a palace fan
We will always worry because of what we have been through in the past , id still be counting points to relegation if we were in arsenals position right now and would have breathed a sigh of relief after them beating Everton and confirming mathmatical safety

I completely agree that keeping Zaha until the end of his deal has been the right thing, as you say. Even now, when he doesn't play we don't look like scoring, and we'd have been relegated ages ago without him.

Apart from Steven Gerrard, I cannot think of any player in modern times to have carried a club to the same extent as Zaha.

Firstly, the team's achievements (promotion, 10 years in the PL, cup final) have all been, whilst not wholly down to Zaha, more dependent on him than any other individual and certainly impossible without him. Secondly, all the things the club have done/are doing come from that on-pitch success. It really isn't an exaggeration to say that without Zaha, there may well not be the new stand, academy and training ground.

It is impossible to replace him directly, and we shouldn't even try. We need to look at better centre forwards, so that Eze, Olise and Rak-Sakyi (if he can step up) are providing and creating, rather than carrying the burden of finding the goals.

What new stand? He’ll be 2 years gone before that is built (if ever), so there will be plenty of other people we should thank for our longevity in the league if it does in fact lead to a new stand.

You would imagine that the ultimate ignominy could arise if, as everyone appears to think that our lofty existence is only down to Zaha, we could look pretty silly with a half built new stand in the Championship.

I do however agree that wide players are not required. We have enough of those. We need a midfield goal scorer (our Lampard if you like) and a proper striker. Failure to improve these positions will make our PL existence precarious in my opinion.

I still think that at the right price, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, and dare I say Newcastle would have him in the squad.

They are not going to buy him for 80mil, but a free transfer on reasonable wages

Time will tell

Clickbait claims you can add Spurs to the list!

When (I don't believe it is a case of 'if') the new stand goes ahead it will be the result of 10 years of top-flight football, and Zaha has done more than anyone to supply that, whether he ever plays in front of it or not. He'll never lift a major trophy with Palace, but he can at least point to the stand for the rest of his life and say he had a big part to play in making it possible.

When we go down (I don't believe that to be a case of 'if' either), the stand will indeed be half empty, but it will still be there. We will be a bigger, better club, with a better chance of coming back up, therefore, or of attracting players, investors, sponsors etc. It is not just about accommodating punters in the here and now.

There never was any such bid. Rumour of an interest from Everton and Arsenal, nothing more. Then Arsenal spent £72m on Zaha's compatriot, Pepe, ha ha, work that one out.

Really? Based on what? I'm not as confident. I think if he was going to be a star for us, he already would be. The guy is 20 now...Olise is only a few months older than him and already starring for us in the prem. I fear Rak Saki will go the same way as those before him (Scannel, Cadagon, Djalali etc)...lots of promise at a young age, but ultimate not quite good enough.

We don’t give 5 year contracts for no reason
