i would argue that everybody in NI has all the advantages of living in both the UK and ROI.

both passports, both Worlds open to you. EU or UK.

And also believe that both Westminster & Dublin would rather not own NI. But have inherited the problems from 400 years ago.

The main problem is that there are so many enclaves with passionately held beliefs.....and all conflicting with each other.

my personal preference is a 3 county NI that is 99% Prod and all still part of the UK forever. No peace walls. No sectarian ghettos. No civil strife. And good relations with all other regions.

But sure what would i know ?

In just a few days, the union is safe for quite sometime, Scottish independence on the back burner, and if the Windsor agreement is accepted, the unification of Ireland is history, if they at a later date were offered a vote on unification, would be like turkeys voting for xmas, unification would mean NI becoming part of Europe therefor a border compulsory, all the advantages gone

An interesting take.

My own view is that this current deal is more to do with helping Sunak fight off a challenge from Johnson before the next election than anything to do with NI itself based on the fact that Sunak can never win a GE.

So Starmer comes in and takes us right back into the EU.

But we will see.

As always, timing is everything and suddenly the EU moving on some pretty significant 'red-lines' only makes sense if you accept they wanted to give Sunak a win.

It will be interesting to see what sticking points emerge but I think this will get over the line.

The correct procedure in my view, would have been for the NI leader to have been involved in the process earlier why does this have to be agreed over their heads and then presented to them as a fait accompli.

It really depends how bloody minded they wish to be, or if everybody is p****d off with the issue and just wants to move on.

The changes are small beer really the EU has been quite cooperative.

I am amazed to be agreeing with Rees-Mogg I will take a sedative.

Is best thing to do with Northern Ireland is to let them pay their own policing bills. The DUP won't back this deal as it means serving under a Fenian.

Sulky Boris apparently not in favour of the deal.
Just sour grapes from the clown in chief.

It is just another step by Remainers trying to unravel Brexit. First they conspired to get rid of Boris with the Labour Parties eager assistance, and now this.
Wait till Labour get back in power. Then you will see the Remainers really come out from under their rocks.

100%. And the more I absorb what has happened, the more I am utterly convinced it has been done to give Sunak the win by way of scuppering Johnson's attempt to come back before the next GE. Johnson is the one who scares Labour the most because the man, despite being the despicable piece of crap he is, does have the magic sauce when it comes to getting the voters out.

Sunak is just a place-holder.

as a matter of urgency, they need to re-start the Parliament in Ulster.
Things are getting ugly up there. And both sides seem to be lining up for a bun-fight. The Polarization into two extremes.....with few occupying the middle-ground.....can only end badly.

I still believe in re-partitioning Ulster into 3 North-Easterly counties....99% Protestant and loyal to the Crown. And the new NI to live in peace & harmony with the rest of ROI.

A united Ireland is an extremist idea.
And a true blue 6 counties, without any Catholic civil rights......is a thing of the past. The extremist view on the other side of the same coin.

the link below is ugly, and not an isolated example.

Local council elections.

More evidence of the need for extremists to stop posturing.....on both sides.

There's a video going around on the Belfast Telegraph of a UVF taxi driver putting a gun to a man while driving his taxi.

surely this wins Top Prize for hypocrisy.

An Orange Order Parade complaining about other peoples "blatant acts of sectarianism". It would be comic & funny if not for the gravity of the situation.

Why in the world would anyone want to a "United Ireland" is beyond me. The Irish government cant even look after any county outside of dublin let alone a few more up north.
