Hasn't kicked on and developed as I thought he might. Starting to think he may never have the mindset or strength for the Premier League. Same goes for others - notably Eze. Is it our manager, or is it lightweight players? Just don't know what to think about our papier mache squad. Ayew isn't the answer but neither is Olise. We don't have an answer basically, and I wonder if Vieira knows the question.

When Wenger met him he told him he needs to score more goals. Says it all.

One Liverpool supporter said on their fans' forum match thread when they played us that he was "the best player on the pitch" (for what it's worth).

If he had a half-decent striker to aim for I believe he'd have double-digits for assists by now. So cool on the ball and has started working harder defensively. Was also PotM for February and got a goal of the month from the PL for his free-kick. Having said all that he was rubbish against Villa!

Agree with this.

To be frank, if he hasn't developed as people thought he might, that says more about their expectation on development than anything Olise has done.

I think allegations of that sort against Eze are more reasonable; he's 3 years older, has been playing at this level for longer, and still not contributing to the same extent as Olise in a creative sense.

Eze has been out with injury so that factors in however I agree.

Without directing this at any HoL posters there is often the thought that a few stepovers/moments of genius/goals before 23 means a player will be Lionel Messi by the aforementioned age. Not quite the case.

Olise for me still looks very much like Olise however has added a bit more work rate too. Still learning, still needs to (fully) adjust to PL, system and team not working at all atm which does not lend itself to development, no real focal point up front etc.

Bit too early doors to shoot him down, for me anyhow.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Agree re Eze's injury, but even factoring that in I worry more about him than Olise - Eze seems to severely lack intensity in his game, particularly off the ball, and his contribution in possession just isn't enough to warrant a defensive passenger.

Olise seems to have a lot more bite and intensity about him - he's clearly a grafter and reminds me of Wilf in his desire to win games. I don't see that with Eze, as talented as he is.

When we had Batshuyi on loan - in his first few games he was getting into great positions and looked a real threat, you could see the difference in Wilf - he felt he finally had a worthy target man to make an incisive pass to, he just looked more energised. I think Olise would benefit from the same - a striker who he felt had a chance of getting on the end & converting.

Exactly. If we had a half decent striking threat we wouldn’t be having this discussion

I think there probably is something to this - no real focal point for our attack. Obviously we use Wilf in general but he gets marked and fouled. I guess an out and out hold up/target man would be better for us. Mateta and Edouard don't seem to be right. It seems quite likely that a hard working forward would be our best bet. In our current squad Ayew would be closest. Not great, I know, but surely more hustle than Mateta or Edouard.

Some players just are what they are and will not change therefore develop. Eze strikes me as such or certainly far more than Olise.

If we do not accommodate Eze (and not suggesting we should or shouldn't) you find it hard to see where he will fit or contribute.

Agree that Olise looks more likely to have it 'in him' to add arrows to his quiver.

I think Olise is one of the laziest players I have ever seen when it comes to tracking back and helping out our defenders. He could learn a lot from Ayew on that score.
He has incredible talent going forward and if he was playing for City or Liverpool he would not be expected to put in as much of a shift but a club of Palace's stature and position has no room for passengers. Sometimes he goes missing. Not a nice fact to accept but its how I feel.

Unfortunately I agree, he could do a lot more. Watch this goal United scored against us and keep an eye on Olise. Zero interest in helping out Clyne with a 2 on 1 so Doucoure does it, leaving Hughes to cover more ground. Then zero interest in following Fernandes into the box. Olise can see Hughes has left Fernandes whilst Fernandes is turning so is at low speed - Olise then goes into a light jog. There are others that don't do well for that goal but even Edouard gets further back. With the application, he'd have nullified Fernandes.

One of the recent draws, might have been Liverpool or Brighton, I remember them getting into a counter position and Olise flew back and put in a half decent challenge so he can do it - it's just effort and on occasion it's not there. We might get away with it against the lower half, but against the big teams it has to be 100% on or we concede goals we don't get back.

Could do with developing his right foot too. He's brilliant at getting down the line in really tight spaces, made Henderson look a complete mug, but seems so reluctant to put a cross in on his right foot that he only does it when he's totally isolated and has no other choice. We attack too slowly for him to always cut inside, he's faced with an absolute wall of defenders at the edge of the box.

Interesting points and faults that many noticed. Although I do wonder how we would be with a decent right back. Clyne just about adequate when we need someone decent. Same for left back - although I think Mitchell has it in him. He needs it brought out somehow. For me, Ward and Clyne are, unfortunately, spent forces at this level - unless Forest stay up and buy them.
