Well, I've had ten hours or so to get used to the news - still very, very (add dozens more 'verys') disappointed that we should take such a backward step.

My question is:
Why has Parish made Paddy assistant manager instead of Ray Lewington who has the job of being first team coach? Is it to ensure that Ray has control of how the players are to be coached to fulfill Roy's diktats?

Basically what WILL Paddy's role really be?

Maybe they have identified that under PV’s regime the coaching was rubbish and a proper proven coach like Ray needs to be put in place. Paddy if he has aspirations to become a manager can benefit from the vast experience of working alongside Roy and Ray. He may be being groomed to become our next Manager.COYP

For those unhappy with the appointment of Hodgson, I'd be interested to know who exactly you think we should have gone for. Keep in mind that the incoming manager has to find out about the players, the league, the club etc, will not have time to radically change the style of play, and that any medium to long term ambition pales into insignificance next to the urgent need to get about a point per game for the next couple of months.

Maybe Roy had his head turned by Jeremy Hunt's back to work offer for the retired?
I mean he's been on the proverbial beach for the last two years - that includes Watford clearly too : )

Thing is Roy is the same age as my old Mum - with the emphasis on old. She was a good pro (a teacher) too - but I doubt any school would come calling, whether it was her old stomping ground or not. Cognitively, you're starting to really not be the sharpest.

No, really, survival comes down to whether Paddy and Ray can out coach Cooper at Forest, Rodgers at Leicester, Moyes at West Ham, O'Neil at Bournemouth and, er, the bloke at Southampton (for my money the latter two are probably done). Not including Leeds and Everton as they clearly already have upward trajectory and no way are they out coaching the Former Spain and Real Madrid manager at Wolves.

We shall see what the future holds !

Yeah it’s a petty solitary ambition upon which any other plan hinges.

I’d be stunned if, in the event we stay up, Hodgson’s offered an extension beyond this season. As much as I resent saying it, we should probably be grateful he’s willing to help out in this circumstance, not many other clubs might have that option available to them.

It would be great for Pep to step back from his duties at Man City to come here along with Ederson, a couple defenders, KdB and Haaland however that was never likely.

I’m inclined to believe the probably necessary appointment of Roy just encapsulates all we are already angry about, our ire should not be directed at him however and might be constructively aimed elsewhere.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I'd be more interested in understanding why Hodgson has taken the role. A candid statement from Hodgson would be welcome. I'm pretty sure he said that the Watford role was his last, understandable given his time in the game. No need to answer Parish's call, he'd left Palace and done his bit. Why come back for 10 games that could tarnish his reputation?
Also I'd like to know for how long negotiations were going on for between him and the club behind Patrick Vieira's back.

Right man, for right job, at right time, we will stay up and have a look who’s available in the summer

Looking forward to a bit of 442 instead of no 6s, no 8s "pivots", "double pivots" CDMs and all the other tedious rubbish.

The stuff on social media about Roy not being the future, "embarrassment" etc. How fvcking dense or thick can you get.

Happy with the decision as long as it is on the understanding that Roy's tenure is only 10 games regardless of the outcome. He is not the future, but may just be our best chance of still being a PL team next season. Anyone else may require time we haven't got to get to know the players, and get them to understand the plan. Roy's career has generally been at its best in getting modest teams to get more results than they probably should. He's also got Palace in his heart. But if he keeps us up (or even if he doesn't) we can't afford to waste time making respectful noises after the season ends - the next appointment must be ready.

Why is any of the above relevant to anything? He's been offered a temporary job and he's decided to take it. End of story.

Touchy subject? If that's good enough for you, that's fine. Me, I'm curious about motivation and such like. Human interaction, psychology, that sort of thing. Areas of interest. Hodgson will have a good grasp of them as he attempts to knock these players into shape.

Some of the papers said productive talks took place between Parish and Hodgson over the weekend, after Vieira was sacked.

Whether initial talks took place earlier or not we will probably never know but Parish, like all club owners or chairmen, is damned either way. If he didn't speak to Hodgson before sacking Vieira then he's taken a reckless gamble that Roy would say yes, if he's spoken to Roy first then he's taken a reckless gamble that Patrick wouldn't find out in an industry that cannot keep anything important secret!

I guess it is Roy's second coming.

That's a bit optimistic. At 75 I'd be happy to come once.
