Thank you Mapletree for the explanation. I thought it could just wait until half time. Still could I guess, as it would be a reasonable compromise. I can’t imagine them stopping a 10,000 metre race half way through. A 10.000 metre runner should not be stopping to refuel drink in a six mile race. A pro football player will run 3-4 miles in a half.

If this were not announced would anybody really notice or indeed care? If the players want to sit down for a four-course meal during a game, say some prayers and have a kip, I think most will protest however I do not see the need to draw too much attention to this beyond acknowledging it's existence for those who may be left feeling unnerved by a few players having a quick drink or what-have-you without a formal announcement. VAR still seems surreal to me in just standing around completely uninformed as to what is happening sometimes but I'm slowly getting over it. I've probably spent more time watching Wayne Hennessey trying to travel a distance of 6m+ before in a game.

What happens when prayer times come during game time in afternoon and evening kick-offs?

Can't recall which World cup it was, but it was somewhere really hot. (Mexico 86 ? and at altitude) and it was agreed before games that drinks could be taken during prolonged stoppages (for injured players, for example). Not really a new one
